Since Humpy already won an event and is leading this one, she looks like the favorite to win the grand prix, though I think Anna Muzychuk has decent chances of catching her (and Hou Yifan, I guess, who's behind on points but also super strong). Oct-04-13    HeMateMe: One of the girls was forfeited when her cell phone rang just as the game began. Instead of ending the game, why not stick them with a one hour time penalty? That is harsh enough to make players remember to turn off the phone, or leave it at the hotel. I think when FIDE gives a press conference, if any of their employees has a phone go off while someone is speaking at the podium, then that employee should be docked one week's pay. If they can burn chess players, why shouldn't they have to live with their own rules? If the person in question is Kirsan, he gets space travel privileges revoked for one month. Many players have been forfeited that way because they were standing at their board instead of sitting. Yes, let's focus our efforts on punishing players to a comical extent for minor infractions, that's a sure way to promote the game and attract sponsors! Oct-04-13    HeMateMe: I read reports about how when Kasparov was campaigning for Karpov in the FIDE elections, some of the third world delegations were shouting him down, as he spoke in a crowded room. These idiots had accomplished nothing in the chess world, and they were mouthing off at the greatest player ever. I suspect Kirsan had already bought a lot of third world votes with under the table payments to delegation heads, or perhaps paying the yearly dues of some of the poorer countries out of his own pocket. I can't think of any other reason why they would vote for kirsan over someone with Karpov's backround.
