Sep-23-13  Billy Vaughan: I think people are discussing Humpy's chances in the overall grand prix, not just this event. Since Humpy already won an event and is leading this one, she looks like the favorite to win the grand prix, though I think Anna Muzychuk has decent chances of catching her (and Hou Yifan, I guess, who's behind on points but also super strong).

HeMateMe: I wonder if Kosteniuk has lost interest in chess, or if the level of competition has just risen? Maybe being a mom has left her less time to train?
Sep-23-13  Kaspablanca: HeMateMe: Since Kosteniuk lost her champion title her chess had lost strenght.

Interesting. It was exactly the opposite for Kramnik.

Sep-25-13  whiteshark: Chessbase Report of the 6th round:

"Lagno was definitely the one that can be most satisfied from this round. While the duel of the leaders beteween Humpy and Harika ended in a hard-fought draw, Lagno was able to outplay Stefanova and catch up with them at 4.5/6. This leaves the tournament up for grabs for any of them, although Khotenashvili has also entered the fray as she beat Girya with the black pieces."

HeMateMe: How's the central Asian food been, so far? Any Stephen King "possessed" radios going off at 3:00am?
Sep-26-13  The Last Straw: Morozevich Syndrome! Zhao Xue has lost 3 games in a row!

Sep-28-13  Vincenze: Koneru played quite poorly against Khotenashvili. She could have drawn at worst and had opportunities to win. I think she must be tired or had a concentration lapse.
Sep-28-13  niemzo: All 3 leaders lose. This is like the candidates. Kotenasvili could even win this now.
Sep-30-13  Vincenze: What happened with the Kosteniuk Muminova game?
Sep-30-13  Vincenze: It was her mobile going off.
Oct-01-13  Kaspablanca: Classical games: Yifan Hou beat Koneru Humpy 10 to 2, with 14 draws. Including rapid/exhibition games: Yifan Hou beat Koneru Humpy 13 to 2, with 15 draws. Only rapid/exhibition games: Yifan Hou beat Koneru Humpy 3 to 0, with 1 draw. *The figures above are based only on games present in our database which may be incomplete.

This show how strong Hou is!!

Oct-03-13  dumbgai: <Morozevich Syndrome! Zhao Xue has lost 3 games in a row!>

And then she won 3 in a row to finish. Moro style indeed.

HeMateMe: One of the girls was forfeited when her cell phone rang just as the game began. Instead of ending the game, why not stick them with a one hour time penalty? That is harsh enough to make players remember to turn off the phone, or leave it at the hotel.

I think when FIDE gives a press conference, if any of their employees has a phone go off while someone is speaking at the podium, then that employee should be docked one week's pay. If they can burn chess players, why shouldn't they have to live with their own rules?

If the person in question is Kirsan, he gets space travel privileges revoked for one month.

Oct-04-13  himadri: and no alien visitors for a week too
Oct-04-13  dumbgai: FIDE has a bunch of weird rules. The automatic forfeit rule for being even one second late is so silly. Many players have been forfeited that way because they were standing at their board instead of sitting.

Yes, let's focus our efforts on punishing players to a comical extent for minor infractions, that's a sure way to promote the game and attract sponsors!

Oct-04-13  TheFocus: <FIDE has a bunch of weird rules.>

What do you expect with the psycho clown that runs it?

Kirsan, the Mars flight is about to depart. Please have your boarding pass ready.

HeMateMe: I read reports about how when Kasparov was campaigning for Karpov in the FIDE elections, some of the third world delegations were shouting him down, as he spoke in a crowded room. These idiots had accomplished nothing in the chess world, and they were mouthing off at the greatest player ever.

I suspect Kirsan had already bought a lot of third world votes with under the table payments to delegation heads, or perhaps paying the yearly dues of some of the poorer countries out of his own pocket. I can't think of any other reason why they would vote for kirsan over someone with Karpov's backround.

Oct-05-13  dumbgai: <I can't think of any other reason why they would vote for kirsan over someone with Karpov's backround.>

"Who is Karpov? Never heard of him." - Kirsan's buddies

Oct-05-13  dumbgai: Karpov has probably never even seen an alien, let alone gone out drinking with them. Definitely lacks the interplanetary experience to be FIDE President.

perfidious: Pity such a shortcoming is part of Karpov's resume.
Oct-06-13  World of Tomorrow: At least Kirsan pays for a lot of events out of his own pocket. Otherwise...

Kramnik didn't bear a child.
