There's also a "Challenger" group: http://chess-results.com/tnr168727.....

Through 4 rounds of play, 3 players (Vallejo, Gustafsson and Barbosa) remain perfect.

Apr-15-15  kummatmebro: Jan "the man" gustafsson!
Apr-15-15  PhilFeeley: The results seem to indicate a knockout event. No?
Apr-15-15  whiteshark: <PhilFeeley> I don't think so. <"Overall the 9-round Thai Open features 299 players in two divisions ...">

Penguincw: Big clash tomorrow: 2nd seed Vallejo-Pons has white against 1st seed Wang Hao. Those 2, along with 3 other players, lead with 4.5/5.

< whiteshark: ... I don't think so. >

I think what he means is that there are several missing games, so the results look like a knockout event.

Apr-15-15  greed and death: Is there any way to find the games that weren't played on the first 6 boards. They appear to be the only ones being broadcast (both here and on other sites), but I'm wondering if theres any other way to find them...

Penguincw: Tournament remains close, as entering the antepenultimate round, 12 players (including the top 6 seeds) are at 5/6.

BTW: How come Vallejo, who basically plays 1.e4 around 66% of the time, didn't play 1.e4 in either one of his first 3 white games. Change of repertoire?

WannaBe: <Penguincw> The tournament is not close, it's an Open...

OK, I'll move along now...

Apr-17-15  dumbgai: Wang Hao has 6/7 and is only gaining 3 rating points. He better end up winning this tournament.

Penguincw: Penultimate round coming up, and there's a big matchup tomorrow:

(1) Wang Hao (6/7) vs. (4) ustafsson (6/7)

11 players sit at 5.5 points.

< Wang Hao has 6/7 and is only gaining 3 rating points. He better end up winning this tournament. >

This is what happens when a >2700 player is facing <2500 opposition...

P.S. How come 2700chess.com has omitted the first round result for Wang Hao? Seems like a legit game to me: http://www.chessgames.com./perl/che...

Apr-18-15  whiteshark: One reason why there are only a few games so far is that they only have a live-coverage of the top 6 boards.
Apr-18-15  CountryGirl: Illingworth vs Short was a tough game. Only 2 of Illingworth's games uploaded so far, the organisers obviously haven't any idea how good he is. But I for one will not be surprised if he finishes high up on the leader-board. Or even gets that 3rd GM norm. Go Max!

Penguincw: A mere round left. Wang Hao leads alone with 7/8, and has black against Ganguly in the last round. 5 players are half a point back.
Apr-18-15  twinlark: <Penguincw: How come 2700chess.com has omitted the first round result for Wang Hao? Seems like a legit game to me>

It is, but his opponent was unrated.

Penguincw: < twinlark: It is, but his opponent was unrated. >

But according to http://chess-results.com/tnr169298...., his opponent was rated 2131, which should be a free 0.8 points.

Apr-19-15  twinlark: Not quite: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...

That might have been his national rating, but it certainly isn't his FIDE rating.

Penguincw: Well that's a crazy last round shakeup, which included leader Hao falling to Ganguly.

Short, Dragun and Ganguly all finish 1st with 7.5/9, but looks like Short wins it all.
