World Team Chess Championship (Women) (2019)

The FIDE Women's World Team Championship 2019 took place from 5 to 14 March in Astana, Kazakhstan in the Astana International Campus (AIC), which is part of the Astana International Financial Centre. The Women's World Team Championship is a biennial round-robin tournament reserved for ten teams, which were selected through various paths. (1) Matches took place on 4 boards, with 2 match points for a win and 1 for a draw. Players received 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment starting from move one. No draw offers allowed until after move 30.

China won with 18 match points (MP), ahead of Russia and Georgia. (2)

Mar-08-19  sonia91: The team from the host country, Kazakhstan, had originally this line-up: 1. Zhansaya Abdumalik 2. Dinara Saduakassova 3. Guliskhan Nakhbayeva 4. Gulmira Dauletova 5. Madina Davletbayeva (team compositions submitted to FIDE: http://www.fide.com/component/conte...). But soon afterwards, Bibisara Assaubayeva switched back to Kazakhstan (from Russia) and was included in the team, on board 3, kicking out Davletbayeva out of the team. This is also Assaubayeva's debut in the Kazakhstani national team.

But let’s start our report by the famous “Ladies first!” The organizers celebrated women’s day by exhibiting a large bunch of roses, from which every female participant could chose to take a piece. The youngest participant of the event, American Rochelle Wu, celebrated her 13th birthday today. She received a present which will remain as a nice souvenir of her trip to Kazakhstan. ">

Mar-08-19  sonia91: The revelation of the championship so far is USA, which surprinsigly drew with Ukraine in rd 1 (Carissa Yip beat former women's WC Anna Ushenina with black) and beat Hungary in rd 2 (in the same round the men beat China! https://twitter.com/chess24com/stat...).

In this event, both Carissa Yip and Rochelle Wu make their debut in the US team.

Mar-13-19  sonia91: China wins with a round to spare after beating USA 3-1. On her birthday, Lei Tingjie's win over Sabina Foisor gave the match victory and the overall victory to China.

The last time China won this event was in 2011. For reference, China won the first three editions of the Women's World Teams, in 2007, 2009 and 2011.

Mar-22-19  sonia91: Tania Sachdev played only 2 games in the first two rounds, because she was ill and had to go to hospital, as she explained on her Istangram profile.
Apr-18-19  dumbgai: China absolutely destroyed the field here, winning all 9 matches.
