For example, Palacio was the 151st ranked player in the field with a rating of ~1663. His first round opponent was Borges with a rating of ~2216. Borges promptly dispatched Palacio in 26 moves. Palacio then had to face Vasquez rated 2285 and was annihilated in 24 moves These 1-section swisses can be brutal but I guess these provide valuable training ground for lesser players ***** |

I refuse to believe either Kasparov or Chernin told him to do this at one of the biggest events of his chess career. Absolutely ridiculous and disgusting to see yet another American chess prodigy go off the rails in the openings. |
