GrahamClayton: According to a 1973 New York Times article "Chess: Portisch Changing His Spots (Or at Least His Emphasis)", Portisch had a reputation as a logical strategist who preferred to eliminate tactics from his games. This tournament victory showed that Portisch had added a tactical element to his play.
