Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Interlaken Open (2003)

It was unexpectedly easy for GM Stefan Djuric (48) from Serbia and Montenegro to win the 3rd Interlaken Open. Djuric won first five games and with comfortable two draws in last two rounds, took the first prize.

Decisive was the series from rounds 3-5 when he outplayed Pinter, Rukavina and Ikonnikov.

The great favorite, Vlastimil Hort, from Germany, who reaches 60 on January 12th, suddenly lost in the 2nd round with Rukavina and the 4th with Nelly Vidonyak and his ambitions were ended. In the end he was out of the money prizes.

The top ten got money prizes and all other players got natural prizes. This year Open took place December 26th-30th in the Hotel "Chalet Oberland" with 39 players 6 GMs, 8 IMs.
