Dec-24-13 | | Jamboree: Does anyone have any "insider" knowledge about how Marsel Efroimski ended up playing in this tournament? Because she was seeded third in the Under 18 division of the World Youth Chess Championships in Al Ain, UAE -- and then there was some mysterious scandal where the nation of Israel was expunged from the tournament Web site, and the Israeli players were then forced to play as stateless players under the banner of FIDE -- except that some of the Israeli players simply disappeared from the tournament, and never played, after the incident. Efroimski was one of those players who were on the original pre-tournament crosstable at Al Ain, and then -- suddenly she turns up in Groningen, playing in a tournament that takes place on the exact same days as the World Youth Championship, where her name was erased from the list of players. Did she withdraw from the WYCC in protest at being forced to play as a stateless player? Was she kicked out of the tournament simply for being Israeli? Or is there a more innocent explanation? I wished she could have continued playing there, because she likely would have won her division and been World Under 18 Champion (she won a younger division at an earlier WYCC). Even so, maybe it's better experience to play here against male adults anyway: i see she has already drawn a 2472 player (!) and won another game. Nice start. |
|
Dec-25-13 | | PhilFeeley: It does appear that she did withdraw from the WYCC. Good for her. Until FIDE gets some courage and stands up to these racist Arabic nations, we'll get more of this nonsense. |
|
Dec-25-13 | | AuN1: because "israel" is a race? ¬_¬
ignorant people like you do a great deal to perpetuate this myth of the zionist persecution. |
|
Dec-25-13
 | | offramp: Happy Christmas. |
|
Dec-25-13 | | PhilFeeley: <myth of the zionist persecution>?? Tell that to the Palestinians. |
|
Dec-26-13 | | zluria: Israel is the home of the Jewish people. Erasing israel flag isn't disagreeing with Israeli policy, it's denying Israel's existence. Yes, this sort of thing is racism against Jews, and Fide should stop putting up with it. |
|
Dec-26-13 | | bozh: zionism = imperialism. or to be more exact, it can be seen as colonial imperialism, now a century-old, which is much worse than imperialism! |
|
Dec-26-13 | | bozh: mizrahim probably descend from judeans. no doubt they are shemitic.
ashkenazim are not at all shemitic; ie, are not jews!
ashekenazim descend from euroasians. there is nothing shemitic about 'jews' [means: so-called] such as paul newman, m. douglas, lauren bacall, et al. paul newman is even more polish than most poles! |

Dec-26-13 | | TheFocus: Pure ignorance on the part of this <bozh>. I doubt English is his first language. |

Jan-01-14 | | RedShield: Does anyone have any "insider" knowledge about how Marsel Efroimski ended up playing in the Girls under-16 European Youth Chess Championship in 2011? |

Jan-01-14 | | whiteshark: <RedShield: Does anyone have any "insider" knowledge about how Marsel Efroimski ended up playing in the Girls under-16 European Youth Chess Championship in 2011?> All (48) members of the <European Chess Union <ECU>> are allowed to send their youth players, and Israel is part of it.

Jan-09-14
 | | Domdaniel: There are two main reasons why Israel is regarded as a European country for sporting and cultural reasons: (1) many of Israel's geographical neighbours do not recognize the state or are unwilling to participate in international competitions, and (2) it suits Israel to be seen as a "Western" country. |

 | | Tabanus: <The 51st Chess Festival in Groningen, the Netherlands included among other things a Karpov - Timman Match (2013) match> If someone is going to remove a "match" from that sentence, it won't be me. |
