The 1st Hungaroil-Honvéd international chess tournament was held from 6 (Round 1) to 19 (Round 13) October 1985 in Szirák, Nógrád County, Hungary, in Hotel Kastély (Castle Hotel), an old castle that had been taken over and renovated by the main tournament sponsor, the Hungarian Hydrocarbon Research and Development Institute.
