The 61st Annual Hoogovens Chess Tournament was a category XVII event held in Wijk aan Zee, The Netherlands from January 16th to January 31st, 1999. 14 top grandmasters, including the world champion, competed in a round robin format in the prestigous A event. The participants were (in order of ELO): Garry Kasparov (2812), Vishwanathan Anand (2781), Vladimir Kramnik (2751), Alexey Shirov (2726), Vassily Ivanchuk (2714), Peter Svidler (2713), Veselin Topalov (2700), Jan Timman (2670), Loek Van Wely (2632), Ivan Sokolov (2624), Jeroen Piket (2619), Rustam Kasimdzhanov (2606), Alex Yermolinsky (2597), and Dimitri Reinderman (2541).
