Dec-11-05  Chess Addict: Interesting option...
Why didn't Black take the Rook?
Dec-11-05  Koster: This must have been Stockholm Olympiad. The world ch. wouldn't be playing in an Interzonal.
Dec-11-05  Benzol: <Chess Addict> 22...♘xc1 23.dxe5 and the Black Knight is unable to escape.

<Koster> This game was played in Stockholm but it must have been in an International Tournament (not the Interzonal) as the Olympiad that year was at Varna in Bulgaria.

perfidious: There was a small event in that Stockholm that year, won with ease by Botvinnik. This game, as well as Skold-Botvinnik, appear in Botvinnik's collection of 100 best from 1947-70.

20.e3! and if 20.....dxe3 21.f4 wins a piece.

After 26.Qc4:

With Black's active rook exchanged, Black's position is hopeless: his QB and remaining rook are paralyzed. Botvinnik finishes off the game after 26....b6 with 27.Qf7 Ne6 28.Nxe6 (28....Bxe6 29.Rxe6 Qxd3+ and Qxa3 loses to Re8+).
