Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-24-03  stinkymagoo: This rare opening is actually a lot more sound than people initially think.
Mar-07-04  haha: I think black can win with the two pawn, if white don't play right.
Mar-07-04  Bartleby: Black's lackidasical development routine neatly relieved white of responsibilty for his opening. Black allowed white a spatial majority on the queen-side which fit with white's ridiculous first move quite well. 23. ... f5 allows white a protected passed central pawn. Even so black was a pawn-up in late middle-game and developed very strong pressure, reaching a climax around move 40. I think white was lucky to draw personally.

Preston Ware espoused this eccentricity often, as well as a dubious Stonewall Attack order (1. d4 and 2. f4 regardless of what black did). Ware didn't fare all that well with 1. a4 in tournament play, either losing or drawing with it most of the time. I think that 1. d5, 1. c5, or even 1. g6 are better first choices for black by-the-by.

Nov-03-04  Larsenb3: Ah yes the "never has won" opening true to it's name. As unsolid as an opening can be!
Feb-15-07  PinkCat: Hi
is there any real game opening 1.a4 a5 2.h4 h5 ? must be quite fun to observe..
Feb-02-09  WhiteRook48: well, I think one guy did and lots of people were laughing, but it might not be in the database
Feb-24-09  WhiteRook48: Ware exactly was this game going?
May-31-10  cjgone: Maybe another move after a4 that took more control of the center?
