offramp: Alekhine was born in Moscow, Halloween 1892. He died in Estoril March 24 1946.
Nov-02-04  Larsenb3: Sorry I was thinking of one of the players in the game above, Garry Kasparov, born in Azerbaijan's capital of Baku.
Dec-03-04  shakespeare918: this goes to show you can be a chess prodigy at 13 but I think mangus needs a little more experiance
Sep-22-05  Averageguy: 22.d7 is a wonderful move. The rooks are forker, taking with the queen allows 23.Nf6+ and taking with the bishop allows 23.Nd6. Great game by Kasparov! <He is almost a pure calculator, kind of like Nezhmetdinov or Polugavsky.> I understand you making the comparison to Nezhmetdinov, but as far as I know Polugaevsky wasn't a very good tactician, apparently it let him down on some occasions.
May-13-06  MagnaPsygnosis: Uncle Gary tought the wannabe kid why his real name is MR. KASPAROV

1. Magnus didnt have any say in the
center

2. 21. Ne4 (Totally outmaneuvered the
kid (outmaneuvered him)

3. 21. Bf5
22. Bxd7
These are the things that shows the man who wants to c that magnus didnt know where he is at, at that moment. Deep inside he knew he is going to loose. So what did he do.., yes he did what every non-GM does......DEFEND and DEFEND and DEFEND

And the best part of it all.... uncle Gary didnt even attack him....

4. 28. Qxd1... no doubt .... Gary was only toying with the child...

Result:
Little Mango took his ball and ran home.

Conclusion:
NOBODY MESSES WITH KASPAROV, not even RUSSIA

Mar-28-07  vesivialvy93: The move 20...d4 looks very bad here ! it would have been good (not certain!) to move the 20...Bd7 now and give the pawn instead even with an horrible center ! in fast game we never know...
Sep-09-07  MH7000: man it must have been cool to play against a player like Kasparov at such an age!
Mar-25-12  Robyn Hode: When faced with the fianchetto Black should opt for a Grunfeld.
Mar-12-13  ismet: why kaspar did not play " Nd6 " move-23? I did not see it was bad move ! you see anything ?
Mar-12-13  Nerwal: There is nothing wrong with 23. ♘d6. It just happens that 23. ♗xd4 is stronger, because black then has no good answer to ♘f6+ and he just loses more material.
Apr-07-14  GumboGambit: Ten years later, and Magnus is still waiting for his rematch!
Apr-08-14  RookFile: Kasparov was smart, he knew when it was time to get out of chess.
Sep-07-15  kamagong24: kasparov is involve in russian politics now, if he concentrates on chess again these youngsters will still get a schooling
Mar-13-16  Hunter16: There is absolutely nothing like 'Fischer would've lost to Kasparov and modern GMs because he was way behind in time'. Follow my logic
Spassky and Tal beat Kasparov(Not a head to head record, only a game)and Bobby beat Talk and Boris So who says Fischer would have lost 100 per cent to Kasparov?
Mar-13-16  TheFocus: <Hunter16> <So who says Fischer would have lost 100 per cent to Kasparov?>

Idiots say it, that's who.

Pure and simple.

Cut and dried.

Idiots. 100% of them.

Mar-13-16  chess959: well said thefocus
Mar-20-16  Hunter16: Indeed.Just wanted to make it clear that there would've been healthy competition between old and modern masters, hopefully. Thanks TheFocus.Appreciate it

Dec-07-18  EGarrett: Carlsen at 13 plays Kasparov. Kasparov at 14 could have played 33-year-old Bobby Fischer. Fischer at roughly age 15 traveled to Russia and asked to play Botvinnik (but wasn't allowed). Botvinnik at around age 14 played Capablanca in a simul.
Dec-07-18  rogge: Carlsen, in frustration after losing this game: "I played like a child" :)

PawnSac: < RookFile: Kasparov was smart, he knew when it was time to get out of chess. >

Sure! What else was there for him to accomplish in the chess world? He was WCC for 15 years, had made an estimated $6.5M but was then ready to make some serious money. Garry is a smart business entepreneur. Its estimated that he has a net worth of around $165 Mil. What would you do? make another 150+ mil? or play chess "professionally"?

PawnSac: < GumboGambit: Ten years later, and Magnus is still waiting for his rematch! >

not in the least! Kasparov coached Magnus to the championship.

Jan-17-23  Messiah: It is hilarious how this dwarf failed to grasp the essence of the absolute basics of the King's Indian Defence.
