Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-25-07  Rolfo: Rc6 did it!
Nov-25-07  Eyal: Black best course after this move was probably to get rid of the d7 pawn a few moves later, giving back the exchange and going into a heavy pieces endgame a pawn down: 28...Qxd7 29.Bxa8 Rxa8 30.Qxe5.
Nov-25-07  bukkerogtakker: Eyal, not very tempting in a "must-win" situation. Magnus probably expected Zhao to go for complications and accept being objectively lost.
Nov-25-07  Eyal: Right, I forgot the match situation... maybe under the circumstances 26...Nf8 was a better try for Black.

egilarne: <Eyal> I suppose Magnus would have played 30. Qxb6 instead of 30. Qxe5, which must be even better.
Nov-25-07  whiteshark: Under normal circumstances black would have played <23...f5=> here.

Nov-25-07  Shams: <whiteshark> doesn't 23...f5 24.Ng5 look good for white?
Nov-26-07  whiteshark: <<Shams>: Doesn't 23...f5 24.Ng5 look good for white?>

You may settle the question after <24...f4 25.gxf4 Rxf4 26.Ne6 Rxb4 27.Rc7 Rba4>

keypusher: What an impressive game from Carlsen. 25. Rc6 is a very pretty move.
Dec-27-11  master of defence: How white wins here? I don´t see how this happens after Qf7 or Kh8. I want the analysis after this two moves.
Dec-27-11  haydn20: <master> after either move 37. Qe8 Rxe8 38. d7xe8=Q Qxe8 39. Bxe8
Dec-27-11  master of defence: <haydn20> You is wrong. For example, after 36... Kh8 37. Qe8 Kg8 and white can´t make progress.
Dec-28-11  King Death: If Black plays 36...Kh8 he loses to 37.e4 g6 38.Qe5+ Qg7 39.Qd6, and if he tries 36...Qf7 37.Qe8+ Qf8 38.Bd5+ Kh8 39.Bf7 wins.

Marching the e-pawn up the board seems like pretty good progress. What do you think Black can do about it?

Jan-30-18  morfishine: <Jonathan Sarfati> You are right but <master of defence> hasn't posted in 16 months, so I doubt he'll be enlightened with your response...
