Phony Benoni: The perfect pun for Thanksgiving Day in the United States, when everybody feels they Et Tu much.
Nov-25-21  Gottschalk: Last Julius Caesar words (in Latin, of course) were "Tu quoque, Brutus?" equivalent in English form to "You too, Brutus?"

"Et tu, Brutus" is equivalent to "And you, Brutus?"

Nov-25-21  Messiah:

bad

  OhioChessFan: Excellent pun.
Nov-25-21  newzild: Not sure how the pun relates to the game...

Poor old Bert must have felt stink that he lost this game after building up an edge. Silicon monsters weren't so strong in those games.

Nov-25-21  areknames: After 31...Bf4 old Brute could have resigned.

perfidious: <areknames>, following your suggestion, one might say that Brute's position would have gone 'Kieboom!'.
Nov-25-21  Jamboree: <madhatter5: 32.♕xf7! is a very nice combination.>

Yeah, but only if black cooperates with 32. .. KxQ?

Can't black instead almost force a draw by simply walking away from the "free" queen with 32. ...Kh6!!? ?

Now Black is threatening (at a minimum) Bh2+ Kh1 Bg3+ etc. for a perpetual. The only move that seems to prevent this is 33. f4 Qg4+ 34. Kf2 Bxf4, and now the fight continues, but black looks better -- so white should perhaps just allow the perpetual instead with some other defensive move on move 33.

What am I missing?

Yeah, but only if black cooperates with 32. .. KxQ? [...] What am I missing?>

After <32...Kh6> (or 32...Kh8) White plays <33.Qh7+> followed by the same N-fork on g5 (except the K is on h7 rather than f7).

Nov-25-21  AlicesKnight: <Jamboree> If 32 ... Kh6, doesn't 33.Qh7+ force the Q capture which allows the g5 fork? Or am I missing something?
Nov-25-21  goodevans: <Notes by Stockfish 11 (minimum 6s/ply) [...] 31...Qxh3 [-+ -8.41 (13 ply)] 32.Qxf7+? [= 0.00 (13 ply)] 32...Kxf7? [32...Kh6 33.Qxa7 Qh2+ 34.Kf1 Qh1+ 35.Ke2 Qxe4+ 36.Kd2 -+ -8.65 (10 ply)]>

This is clearly garbage. Not SF's fault as given more depth it will happily come up with the right evaluations.

Today's puzzle if also annotated with similar computer-generated excrement. There needs to be a way of getting rid of this nonsense from the cg database as it's getting embarrassing.

Nov-25-21  Brenin: Stockfish's line 32 Qxf7+ Kh6 (or Kh8) 33 Qxa7 loses White's Q to 33 ... Bh2+ 34 Kh1 Bxd6+ 35 Kg1 Bh2+ 36 Kh1 Bb8+ 37 Kg1 Bxa7. White needs to play 33 Qh7+ Kxh7 34 Ng5+ and 35 Nxh3, with a clear advantage (a P up, with a protected passed P on d6).
Nov-25-21  Brenin: As a follow-up to my preceding posting about Stockfish's line, after 32 Qxf7+ Kh6 (or Kh8) 33 Qh7+ Kxh7 34 Ng5+ Kg7 35 Nxh3, if Black tries to regain the lost P with 35 ... Bxc3 then 36 Rxe8 Rxe8 37 d7 Rd8 38 Ng5 threatening Ne6 wins, since if 38 ... Kf6 then 39 Ne4+ wins the B. Black does better to take the Q with 32 ... Kxf7 33 Ng5+ Kf6 34 Nxh3 Bxc3 35 Rxe8 Rxe8, so that his K is two moves closer to the d-pawn, preventing the win by d7.
Nov-25-21  Saniyat24: 33.Ng5+ Ka-boom...!
