Dec-04-12  haydn20: Geez, 18....Rf6 looked perfectly sensible. Maybe Jones thought he was going to lose a positional struggle on time anyway, so take a tactical shot & pray.
Dec-04-12  haydn20: 26....h5 in for a penny...

scormus: <Cemoblanca: "Live fast, die young, and leave a beautiful corpse!"> Turkish? Sounds more like a Viking one ....

Is ... h5 playable. If Gawain is going doen, I want it to be with all his guns firing

Dec-04-12  Cemoblanca: <moronovich> There's no luck for Dr. (Indiana) Jones! :D

scormus: honest, I'm sending messages to his handy
Dec-04-12  norami: Years ago I planned to live fast and die young, but then I realized I would have left an ugly corpse.
Dec-04-12  kellmano: In the British championship tiebreak Jones blundered his queen for a piece and won. This is child's play for him.
Dec-04-12  Marmot PFL: McShane and Jones played the #1 & #2 players in the world, each sacrificed queen and each is down about an hour on the clock. Attractive sacrifices that look brilliant at 2500 or 2600 level don't work so well against 2800.

scormus: ooops, I means I'm NOT sending .....
Dec-04-12  Cemoblanca: <scormus: honest, I'm sending messages to his handy> You should send him a good line! :D
Dec-04-12  haydn20: 27. b4! so cold-blooded.
Dec-04-12  kellmano: ok, he looks totally lost now.

Fusilli: Time to get the rook on a3 either out of there (to a2 I suppose) or protected (R8a8).
Dec-04-12  kellmano: .....e5 now? A move some philistines play first move
Dec-04-12  SCUBA diver: Black should double up the rooks on the a file
Dec-04-12  Cemoblanca: I would call this 1: "Das Grauen des Gemetzels"... :D

Fusilli: I don't understand Rc3. R8a8 was my favorite (with some ...Ra1 possibilities later). Rc3 does not solve the pin, since after a hypothetical exchange on c3 white would have the annoying Rc1.

Dec-04-12  Cemoblanca: g4/g5/Nxh4, etc.
Dec-04-12  haydn20: 312....Rfa8 may have held some swindling chances.

  scormus: <Cemoblanca: <scormus: .... You should send him a good line! :D>

If I could find one, I would. How about " Don't close doors, keep an escape clause because we might lose the Big Apple"

Dec-04-12  Wyatt Gwyon: Gawain is toast.
Dec-04-12  Ulhumbrus: <haydn20: Geez, 18....Rf6 looked perfectly sensible. Maybe Jones thought he was going to lose a positional struggle on time anyway, so take a tactical shot & pray> 18...Rf6 looks very unpleasant for White. It threatens the skewer ..Re6 against White's queen and king's bishop, and white's queen is tied to the defence of the b3 pawn. Whether Jones' queen sacrifice lead to a win remains to be seen
Dec-04-12  kellmano: 33......Bd4 surely
Dec-04-12  Cemoblanca: OK, let's check out: 32.g4! hxg3 33.Qxg3 Rg8 34.Ng5! Bxg5 35.fxg5, etc.
