Seeing the Rook check and forced PxR allowing White's Queen to slide over and say "Mate" maybe was more than three seconds worth of analysis, but it sure didn't take long. Other comments about this being more Mondayish are on the money.

Dec-05-17		patzer2: White's opening move 7. Nc3 sacrifices the Bishop for an attacking initiative, and according to our Opening Explorer (OE) is White's most popular move. It is also the computer first choice. The next few moves are all book and computer first choice selections, until White's bold stroke 10. Qd4!? This move (10. Qd4!?) is a human first choice (at least according to our OE) which is not favored by the computers. Yet, as this game indicates, it has surprise value and pitfalls for unprepared opponents. In response to 10. Qd4!? a reasonable defensive try, as noted by <perfidious>, is the game move 10...Qd7 ⩱ to ∓ (-0.72 @ 35 ply, Stockfish 8). However, according to our Opening Explorer, White won all four games in which 10...Qd7 was attempted. This game and White's win in A Kunte vs R Eames, 2001 are the last two attempts with 10...Qd7 in our OE. The strongest reply to 10. Qd4!? appears to be the bold choice 10...Nxe4 ∓ (-1.22 @ 35 ply, Stockfish 8) as in Black's win in A Feoktistov vs A Karpatchev, 2001.

For once, you could be nice and give one of your fellow CG members a well-deserved compliment. But you are too petty and insecure not to keep the focus on you and your self-promoted "brilliance."

Dec-05-17		Sally Simpson: Ah Ha...I've made a Tuesday and it's a cock up. My 10.Qd4 came from this game J Pisa Ferrer vs Graf Gunther, 1981 which I saw in British Chess Magazine, May 1981, page 169.. That is a cracking game and it is move for move the same as my game. I may be at fault here. see post R Hardarson vs S Briem, 1982 (kibitz #40) and further down where I say I am going to submit the J Pisa Ferrer vs Graf Gunther game. I submitted my game for my page and somehow the same game ended up at J Pisa Ferrer vs Graf Gunther, 1981 I'll get it corrected . That game has a puzzle in it. click for larger view White to play. Dec-05-17		Sally Simpson: Hi Fusilli:, No need to defend me. I don't mind what anyone says about one of my games. I lost hundreds of games in the analysis room after getting the point in the game that mattered. Also, It was a League Game which is often played in a setting the top players would just refuse to play in. You play in the evening, usually after a full days work in a dimly lit room. 36 moves in 1 hour and 15 mins + 10 minute allegro (no add ons) on a chess set sometimes with a piece missing. Once v a University team I had to use a matchbox for a Rook...Have you ever Castled with a matchbox? Sounds awful but some of the best nights out I've had have been the after match booze up in the 80's and 90's. Very often tumbling through the front door at home round about dawn.

Apr-08-24		Teyss: Great game, of course not perfect but full of action and interesting ideas. White did everything we learned at the start: sac a piece in the opening, get your Queen exposed, give away your castling rights but in the end castle by hand... on the Qside!

Apr-08-24		Sally Simpson: Hi Teyss, This opening is currently hot. I wonder how many bods are coming to this site to check it out and stumbling over this one. I can now imagine Caruana and co. on their rest day coming across this and either licking their lips in anticipation or shaking their heads in dismay. (probably the latter.) It was one that worked. Trust me I have more than a few that failed in many other openings. In the Delayed Schliemann 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 f5 5.d4 fxe4 6.Nxe5 Nxe5 7.dxe5 b5 click for larger view I've never faced this line and here 8.Bb3 is good, very good but I do not think I'll be able to resist playing 8.Nc3 and 9.Nxe4. The chapter in Jonathan Rowson's excellent 'Chess for Zebras. ' 'Which Myth are You Playing by' was written with me in mind. The headings, 'The Sacrificial Attacker,' and 'The Thwarted Genius' might easy be called 'The Geoff Chandler Syndrome parts one and two.' I once told Keith Ruxton I hated Rowson because he should have written 'Zebras' in the early 60's when I young and impressionable. He replied Rowson was not even born then. I replied then I hate his parents.
