Apr-01-18 | | siggemannen: This is the one of the best games i've seen in 2018 |

 | | offramp: No matter how old chess gets or how strong GMs become, people will always have trouble with that KB2 square. |
Apr-01-18 | | malt: Worth seeing twice. |
Apr-01-18 | | morfishine: All things being equal "Vitiugov's Immortal" would be a fitting game title. Unfortunately, no one knows how to pronounce 'Vitiugov' ***** |
Apr-01-18 | | ChessHigherCat: <morfishine> Veet-you-goff, with the stress on the first syllable, I think (calling all Russians to correct me on that) |
Apr-01-18 | | morfishine: Dear <ChessHigherCat> While I have dozens of poor misguided miscreants/ruffians on my ignore list, I am proud to announce that you have made it onto my 'favorites' list, a short list indeed best always, morf

 | | Sally Simpson: I'd have gone for Viti-u-gof but am expecting to be corrected. "Succumbing to Philidor's Mate is the worst humiliation that a player can endure at the chess board." Not to sure, but each to their one I guess. To lose such a game is OK. I could see me saying: "Beautiful. let's play it out the mate and put it on the board." Think back rank mate is a more painful way for an experienced player to lose. |
Apr-01-18 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: The one time I got to employ a Philidor's Mate in an actual game (on the internet), my opponent was very sporting and complimented me on my play. I think I realized that I had accomplished all I could chesswise with my limited abilities and stopped playing shortly afterwards. |

Apr-01-18 | | Castleinthesky: Smothered Mate! |

Apr-02-18 | | ChessHigherCat: <Castleinthesky> Sweet mystery of life, at last you've found it! |

 | | Domdaniel: It is not so difficult to pronounce names like 'Vitiugov' - just remember to change certain English-style pronunciations - such as 'j' pronounced 'dj' rather than 'y' - which does not apply here anyway. "Vit-you-gov" is good enough. |
Apr-04-18 | | whiteshark: <"Vit-you-gov" is good enough.> 4me,2 Витюгов - Vitiugov - Witjugow (russ.- engl.- germ.) know thy letters, syllables, vowels and consonants and how to articulate them. |

May-01-22 | | areknames: An absolute belter of a game and an appropriate and lovely pun. |

May-01-22
 | | perfidious: A curious denouement; on an open board and possessing a number of legal moves, White's queen has nowhere to avoid ruination. |
May-01-22
 | | offramp: Vityou.gov sounds like an agency that finds homes for foreigners. |
May-01-22 | | Timwestlund: It's such a shame white resigned instead of allowing the smothered mate on the board. |

 | | Teyss: Good game and fit pun for a quick victory.
See Bluebaum vs Vitiugov, 2018 (kibitz #1) to understand the ending. |
May-01-22 | | ndg2: Amazing deflection at the end from the g1-a7 diagonal with Ra3. |
May-01-22 | | whiteshark: <In viti veritas> so the six years of latin at school were not in vain. |
May-01-22 | | whiteshark: or was it <in vitiu veritas>? |
May-01-22 | | AlicesKnight: <whiteshark> "In vino veritas" - the truth under the influence of wine. Perhaps "non Vitii vitium" - 'not Viti's mistake', if you want real dog-Latin. A beautiful last move; the White Q has virtually nowhere to go except capturing on a3, when the sky falls in. |

May-01-22 | | Shrinarayanan: nice. WQ giving up the diagonal leads to a smothered mate for black. |
