Nov-02-22  zaxcvd: <that the Nazi devils made him write those pieces for Pariser Zeitung--nothing at all to do with that personality which was 'defined' at 6.7 years.> One has nothing to do with the other - strange thinking to connect the two.

In 2022, whenever a game of chess is played esp. online we have to trust opponent to not use engine -those who repeatedly cheat are clearly trying to elevate their rating to that which they cannot achieve on their own. Someone with such a history therefore should be subject to more scrutiny and it can be concluded with reasonable certainty that they are not as strong as they the rating they obtained with cheating. the challenge right now is simply to determine HOW the cheating was done OTB not IF. Even more interesting if the cheating was done during the US championships despite the delay! Definitely a challenge for Columbo!

Nov-02-22  stone free or die: <yiotta: <newzild: Two months after the game, it's clear now that there is no evidence of Hans cheating in this or any other game over the board.> According to an employee of the former Los Angeles Chess Club, Hans was caught cheating in over the board tournaments (with cash prizes) and was expelled from the club. A report was filed with the USCF.>

As <beat> I'd like to see the source of this story.

It's curious if there was any basis in fact to this story that we've had to go to <CG> to get the breaking news.

Also if such a report was filed with the USCF, and was credible, it would be quite curious to have Niemann lead the <World Team Championship>.

I couldn't find anything on the web corresponding to this story.

yiotta: <beatgiant & stone free or die>I regularly play chess with the source of the information. The cheating involved the increments on the time controls, so it most likely occurred during blitz, but could have been during rapid play tournaments.

<MissScarlett>Thanks for the video!

Nov-03-22  stone free or die: <yiotta> thanks for the reply. If I may ask a follow up...

How old was Niemann at the time(s)?

Nov-03-22  Chessius the Messius: <yiotta>

Most likely...? You mean: sucked from your thumb.

<Chessius the...>English is only my 1st language, can you explain your post?

yiotta: Although he was a child, this incident speaks to the fact that Hans claims never to have cheated over the board, or for cash prizes. He's clearly a talented player; it's a shame that his results are tainted by inevitable suspicions.

What part of my previous post were you struggling with?

yiotta: <MissScarlett>I believe my friend is telling the truth, so why wouldn't he swear to it in court?

<Chessius>I'm not familiar with the expression "sucking from your thumb", can you explain what it means?

Shouldn't you clear this with your friend first?

yiotta: <MissScarlett>I probably should have checked with him before I made the first post. Well, I can always start a Go Fund Me for my share of the $100 million. On the bright side, I'll be partners with Carlsen and Nakamura.
Nov-03-22  Chessius the Messius: <yiotta>

Oh, I see. It's a Dutch expression. It means:

to make up, to fabricate, to pull out of one's ass.

Ha!

No worries though, everybody else realizes <CG> is actually parody.

(Just ask the historian formerly known as Olimpiu Urcan.)

MissScarlett: < Well, I can always start a Go Fund Me for my share of the $100 million.>

$100 million makes for a nice round headline figure, but Niemann's lawsuit actually detailed five causes of action (slander, libel, violation of the Sherman Act, tortious interference, civil conspiracy); four each requesting at least $100 million in damages, and one, unspecified. And also costs, expenses, reasonable attorneys’ fees and any other relief as the court deems just and proper. So let's just say, don't expect much change from half a billion dollars.

Nov-04-22  newzild: <yiotta>

If a report was filed with the USCF then it would be in the public domain.

no 12 year old should be without it.

Apr-26-23  DanLanglois: <Herr Stauffenberg: <DanLanglois> g4 because e4 will be capture with bishop or rook. But, 30. a4 ?? Better, maybe, now gxf5.>

You mean, 28. g4. I criticized this, as the losing move (as I recall). White is already down one pawn (I have grown only more critical of how that happened with 21. c4 Bxc4) and is now throwing another pawn, or at least what is obvious is that with 28. g4, the pawn (a second pawn) is being placed en pris. That didn't work out.

<Herr Stauffenberg: If exchange pawns... 29. gxf5 Rxd5 30. Rxe4 Rxf5 31. h4 Rh5 32. Rg4+ Kf6 33. f3 Nc4 34. a4 b5 35. axb5 axb5 36. Kf2 Ke5 37. e4 Kd4 38. Kg3 b4 39. Rg7 b3 40. Rxf7 b2 41. Rb7 Kc3 42. Kg4 Ra5 43. f4 h5+ 44. Kg3 Ra1 45. Rxb2 Kxb2 46. f5 Rg1+ 47. Kf4 Nd2 48. e5 Rf1+ 49. Kg5 Ne4+ 50. Kxh5 Rxf5+ 51. Kg4 Rxe5 52. h5 Nf6+ 53. Kh4 Rxh5+ 54. Kg3>

You mean, 29. gxf5 instead of 29. Ba2. What I'm tracking on is that Black can consolidate being up a 2nd pawn with ...fxg4, though it requires delicacy. Thus, maybe 29. Rd8 fxg4 will suffice. Looking at it now I wonder if 29. Ba2 fxg4 is also fine. After your 29. gxf5, at least we have something else. First, 28...Rc5 gives this, White to move:

29. gxf5 isn't a 'real' option -- I mean, it would give this:

click for larger view

White's bishop is hanging.

If I assume you mean 30. gxf5, then first, 29. Ba2 Nc5 30. gxf5

click for larger view

Here, you give ...Rxd5, but there is nothing on d5. I guess you mean 30...Rxf5. However, Black has better: 30...Nxa3. This threatens ...Rc1+ followed by ...Rc2+, which might be a way to win the bishop on a2. So White doesn't really have any good moves, here.

Sally Simpson: I suppose here is a better place to post Nakamura's vid summing up that the Hans v Magnus court case has been dropped.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=d...

Not sure about Nakamura's wee dig mentioning Hans dip in form regarding ratings. Hans has been under the kind of pressure only we can only imagine since this whole thing started. (Magnus too has taken a hit rating wise - Nakamura forgot to mention that.)
