Sergio X Garcia: Facing off is no cheating. Computer games there is much cheating of many players.

perfidious: <stone free or die: <<Lassannn> No one that good would make such an error.>

Wasn't there a GM WCC who overlooked a mate-in-one once upon a time?>

Pure trolling; that has <never> happened, and no former titleholder has ever insinuated cheating by Niemann, either.

<Sergio: Facing off is no cheating....>

Regrettably, this has happened numerous times and is well documented. I was present during the earliest known (if crude) instance, at the 1993 World Open.

FSR: It's cool how four pieces are lined up on a1 to a4 at the end.
Feb-04-24  goodevans: The game was of interest at the time but that time has passed and so has the interest.

As for the pun, I'm sure I must be missing something.

tamar: Hans says yesterday and today that he tore up his hotel room after some tough losses at the Championship. He disputes how much damage he did, but says he admitted it to the hotel, and was fined.
Feb-04-24  belgradegambit: Great pun!

offramp: He did $7 worth of damage.

HeMateMe: Didn't Alekhine break up a room after losing to someone in a GM tournament?
Feb-04-24  EvanTheTerrible: Agreed, <belgradegambit>, a great pun.
Feb-04-24  EvanTheTerrible: Ben Finegold said Irina Krush once kicked a hole in the wall of a hotel room. He is not alone!
Feb-04-24  Allderdice83: Wow. Just wow. You don't expect that kind of blunder from a GM.
Feb-04-24  FM David H. Levin: <<stone free or die>: <<Lassannn> No one that good would make such an error.>

Wasn't there a GM WCC who overlooked a mate-in-one once upon a time?>

I don't know, but Reshevsky once did the opposite, that is, blundering his queen when he thought he was delivering checkmate: Reshevsky vs Savon, 1973.

FSR: Good one! The second Elvis pun in less than a month, following A Sandalakis vs E Klasan, 2010 ("All Shook Up").

eternaloptimist: That's a great pun <MissScarlett>! Actually I went to the closing ceremony & after-party for the US Chess Championships last year! I enjoyed the trophy presentations & meeting a lot of the players as well as visiting w/ the players that I have already met. I spent more time talking to Sam Sevian & Irina Krush than any of the other players. They r 2 of my favorite chess players & both of them have great personalities. I spent 2 nights @ The Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza Hotel in the Central West End part of St Louis for the sake of convenience & I enjoyed staying there. It's the same hotel where Niemann caused damage to 1 of the rooms & where the closing ceremony & after-party took place. It's close to the St Louis Chess Club, great restaurants & other attractions also. Since major renovations r going on @ the St Louis Chess Club they won't allow spectators there in the playing halls during tournaments until sometime in ‘25. I have spectated in the past a couple of times & would like to do that again in the future.

Must have been a Travelodge.

I Krush vs J Yu, 2022 would have furnished an appropriate occasion.

Feb-04-24  RookFile: What a ridiculous game. You would think black would see the danger in a bullet game.
Feb-04-24  EvanTheTerrible: <RookFile>, I think Niemann was trying to blitz Robson. He had an uncomfortable position, but had a large lead on the clock. Black had 49 minutes to White's 4, with 6 moves until time control. Still, what an oversight.
Feb-04-24  stone free or die: A great example of chess blindness, <David> (if I may), aka <FM David H. Levin>. No one is completely immune to it, not even Reshevsky!

Here's a link to the missed mate-in-one I referred to previously. A bit infamous:

https://en.chessbase.com/post/how-c...

Feb-04-24  whiteshark: besides: @0:51s the kid disregarded the touch-move rule. Greg did the same at @2:27
Feb-04-24  stone free or die: That's an old video, I remember seeing it before.

<whiteshark> - it's a blitz game, and I don't think a FIDE one. So they may have been playing clock-touch rules.

Feb-04-24  whiteshark: <sfod> Yes, exactly. Light comedy; good change of perspective

I don't know>

Now you know:

Deep Fritz vs Kramnik, 2006

Mar-26-24  Cassandro: <FSR: <Ben Finegold said Irina Krush once kicked a hole in the wall of a hotel room.>

Wow, I wish I had been there to comfort her.
