Oct-05-06  sneaky pete: After 32... Kg7 Steinitz apparently announced # in 5. Löwenthal (tournament book 1864, original source of the score) cuts off after 32.Bxg6 .. and Suhle (the German tournament book from 1864) after 32... Kg7 with the comment "white mates in 5". The final moves given here (# in 5) stem from Bachmann. However, 36... fxe4 would delay the # with 1 move.
Oct-06-06  Calli: There is a Matt in 5 Zugen 33.Qf7+ Kh6 34.Bf5! Kg5 35.g3 Qe8 36.Qg7+ Qg6 37.Qxg6# Perhaps this is the mate that Steinitz announced.
