Mar-02-05  RookFile: One can imagine that if Steinitz
tried to play the King's gambit against
Morphy, it would have gone like this:

Adolf Anderssen vs Morphy, 1858

Jan-22-10  Dravus: Both sides have the attack until Chigorin's last knight is out (about 4-5 moves before the end). Then all that is left are four rooks, four bishops and two queens. Each factors into the tangle at the end, with their respective defensive and offensive roles. A sort of broken (or breaking) play, good passing, where the knights have fouled out and the pieces are going five on five. (Forget the benchwarmers, the pawns).

perfidious: The first of only two King's Gambits between these titans, with the notorious Chigorin vs Steinitz, 1892 game being the other; I am surprised Chigorin never tried his hand at his old favourite on any other occasion than that critical game of the title match, given his great love of open play.
