Jun-26-09  AnalyzeThis: Euwe shows how strong he was with the Slav Defense.
May-08-23  Mathematicar: "White takes the eariest opportunity of a drawish ending." LOL.

I love Alekhine's notes though. They are, I must say, quite better than Capablanca's.

perfidious: Alekhine could be analytical, whimsical, painstakingly objective, and certainly, as here, acerbic.
May-09-23  Mathematicar: I just borrow from my chess club Capablanca's My Chess Career in Croatian (original Yugoslav version from 1937!!). I also have some great tactics book from Georgy Lisitsin (parts I, II and III) and also Yugoslav version of Ruben Fine's Basic Chess Endings, original edition from 1951 (!). I would like to "read" those books over summer, after my final exams are over.

Lasker's Manual of Chess, Schandorff's Caro-Kann and Panchenko's strategy book are collecting dust on the shelves.

Anyway, from just a few annotated games, Alekhine seems like a very good explainer of ideas. But it's easy to get the books. Doing them is another thing.

Dec-23-23  edubueno: I think that Alekhine notes, in the main point of the game, are too simple. Capablanca, who was leading the Tournament, perhaps doubt in trying the sacrifice 18.
