Jun-30-14  SpiritedReposte: Violent clash of plans. Adorjan shows he doesn't need rooks.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Looking through the Opening Explorer made one thing clear--the 7.Bb5 variation poses plentiful perils for both players. White does better to eschew material gain and reinforce the center with 15.f4. At the end, 24.Rxc3,Nf3+; 25.gxf3,Bxc3+; 26.Kd1,e2+; 27.Kc1,Ba4+ constitutes only one way to prove Black is better than OK.

FSR: <Cecco> The common consensus is that White begins the game will some advantage, typically scoring somewhere around 54 to 56%. See my award-winning Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First...

Most chessplayers consider this a pretty uncontroversial proposition. However, Andras Adorjan, a Hungarian grandmaster who died three days ago, took violent exeption to it. He wrote an influential series of books and articles on the theme "Black is OK!" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First...

Adorjan's second-to-last book on the subject was entitled "Black is OK Forever!" That sentiment, illustrated by an attractive counterattacking game he won with the black pieces, seems an appropriate one to remember him by.

If 27.Kc1, Ba4 is not check. It's a fine move, but also 27...e1=Q+ and black ends up a piece. He'll have to promote even if he plays Ba4 anyway.

Unless you meant 27.Kc2 instead of 27.Kc1, Ba4+ 28.Kxc3 oops :)

May-14-23  WickedPawn: <FSR>: the chessgames.com site is in shambles with all the aggressive and utterly annoying advertisement, but your 05/14 post is what keeps me coming back to this site.
May-15-23  Shangri La: Yes pop advertisement always in way.
May-18-23  Cecco: Thanks for the explanation of the pun.
