Oct-09-05  who: Deacon makes Steinitz look like a child in this game. Fritz gives 13...Qd7 as necessary to save the game.
Oct-09-05  who: On second thought look at SBC's comments to F Deacon vs Morphy, 1858.
Oct-09-05  sneaky pete: <who> This game is genuine. Steinitz and Deacon played a match in London, March 1863, won by the former 5 to 1 with one draw. Steinitz won the first 3 games easily and felt so confident he could beat Deacon from every position, that in this 4th game he repeated a suspect line from the first game Steinitz vs F Deacon, 1863 with reversed colours. 12... Qb7 was his improvement over 12... Qe6 as played by Deacon, but it didn't work out as intended.
Oct-09-05  who: Good to know. Thanks.
