Feb-06-09  gauer: With apologies to Carlos Saavedra , Fernandez Saavedra, Jose Luis , Alberto L Saavedra & Patricia Riego Saavedra , this ending in the database by these players seems to be the closest game of the batch resembling what recently occurred in Svidler vs Topalov, 2006 .

Originally, a game Richard Fenton vs William Norwood Potter , 1875, 1/2 with position /

/ continued: 1 Rxh3 Kxh3 2 Kc6 Rxa5 3 b7 Ra6+, & drawn by agreement. Instead, that year, The City of London Chess Magazine points out a try for a win by Josef Kling & Bernhard Horwitz , 1853. But with the passing of Potter 20 years later, Georges Emile Barbier attempts to correct a related study of Johannes Zukertort , Barbier claiming to have known a correction method that he previously used is a similar position of one of his games. Finally, another Saavedra steps in, writing a letter to a May 4 column of the Glasgow Weekly Citizen, showing a thematic underpromotion, & the rest became chessic history: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saaved... .

May-02-09  Lovuschka: I bet, you didn't know the full game already. It may be presented at the internet here for the first time, and I took it from the rare book of Harrie Grondijs, No Rook Unturned, where he gives as source the City of London Chess Magazine, Volume II 1875, where Johannes Hermann Zukertort annotated the game. Here it is without annotations, the position shown by you arrives after the 53rd move:

Richard Henry Falkland Fenton - William Norwood Potter, London 1875

Jan-19-11  Lovuschka: Please replace: 5.Sc3 by 5.Sbc3, 9.b3 by 9.h3, 34...Bxf8 by 34...Bxe8. Add 41.Rxd3 Rf7, renumbering moves "41" to "43" to "42" to "44". The rest seems ok.
