Sneaky: Radu, you're right, I saw that line but I had a vision of winning the rook on f1 with Rc8+ and Qd3+ ... I think that doesn't really work as d2 is hanging.

Joshka: Sokolov got mated by Polgar
Jan-29-05  ChessMan94: Joshka

Sokolov resigned, he did not get mated.

Jan-29-05  Castle In The Sky: Chessmaster 10th suggests Rd1 is strongest for white with essentially a drawn game. ...Qxd2 would have been stronger on the previous move
Jan-29-05  acirce: What a position, almost every piece is standing where it has or almost has to stand. Hence Fritz' various repetition lines with silly king moves and such.
Jan-29-05  WillC21: What do you mean sokolov got mated? As in he resigned in a position that was like mate in 4? Or did he just blunder and Polgar instantly checkmated him. I hope not, poor soko is doing so poorly here.
Jan-29-05  Chris00nj: Black is eyeing Qc2
Jan-29-05  sandyobrien: my crafty is calling this a draw
Jan-29-05  ChessMan94: What about 41. Nc4?

Joshka: <willc21> Akobian on chessfm..stated Polgar delivered mate to sokolov
Jan-29-05  TheSlid: <As in he resigned in a position that was like mate in 4?> Pretty much!
Jan-29-05  ChessMan94: The final position in the official site does not show mate for Polgar.
Jan-29-05  SCUBA diver: How about black 40. ...Q-c2
Jan-29-05  Chris00nj: ChessMan94: What about 41. Nc4?

41...Qc2 still works. Threatening Bxc4 and Rxf2

cu8sfan: I've been away for a while. Seems like I'm missing a great game.
Jan-29-05  sandyobrien: no Nc4

Bxc4, Qxc4, Ne4, Bh4, Ng3+, Bxg3, Qxg3 and black wins

Jan-29-05  TheSlid: <cu8sfan> Most exciting event since the last games from Leko-Kramnik. Truly ironic that you missed, given the time devoted to the tournament!
Jan-29-05  arifattar: I think black should sac the Knight

Joshka: cu8sfan leko sacked his knight for a couple of pawns and threats..but he took a lotta time to do it...and just made time control
Jan-29-05  Gypsy: Ok, lets call Polgar-Sokolov essentially a mate. She found it and Sokolov could not stopped it (other than by resigning or leting the clock running out).
Jan-29-05  Castle In The Sky: ...Qc2is not listed in Chessmasters top 7 moves, it suggest ...Bb7 with a -.11 advantage
Jan-29-05  cheski: Wasn't 40...Kh7 a better move?
Jan-29-05  sandyobrien: Qg6, Kh2, Qg5, Kh1 and crafty 18 says draw :(
Jan-29-05  SCUBA diver: Q-c2 still looks good
