Nov-06-06  Ashram64: it's almost a motiff for domino mate
Nov-06-06  Ashram64: how could a 2100 player make such a silly mistake? f6??
Nov-06-06  slowcrawl: Haha, I got this in 3 seconds, but when it said E Player, I thought that it really meant "E Player."
Nov-06-06  think: Of course I got this easily. An interesting thing about this game... at move 7, white has a sort of stonewall dutch setup, but with white.
Nov-06-06  YouRang: Yeah, if you missed this one, either you're a beginner or maybe chess just isn't your thing.

For the rest of us, such puzzles provide a little boost of artificial confidence.

Nov-06-06  sfm: <how could a 2100 player make such a silly mistake? f6??> Yes, 24.-,fxg6 had to be tried.
Nov-06-06  YouRang: <outplayer: 24...fg6 could save the game.> I'm not so sure. I was looking at that too, but then:

25. Qxg6 Rf7
26. Qh7+ Kf8
27. Qh8+ Ke7
28. Rxg7 Qf2 (diagram:white to move)

29. Rxf7 Qxf7
30. Rh7, pinning and winning the black queen .

Nov-06-06  kevin86: Mate in three, easy as pie. TGIM!
Nov-06-06  DeepThought: I'm a killer chess beast!

I gooooooooooooooooooooooooot it!

I hadn't yet released my mouse and already solved it!

Deep Blue could not have solved it faster than genius myself!

Ooops, was that a Monday puzzle? :-)

Nov-06-06  Knight Life: Black's idea seems to be heading to 21...Rc3x. Why doesn't he pull the trigger on it?
Nov-06-06  JakOTheShadows: all to easy took 1 second well 1 out of 1 so far

playground player: Some of us need the ego boost provided by Monday puzzles! And it makes sense for the puzzles to get harder as the week goes on. Hopefully I will advance to the point where I'm able to solve Saturday and Sunday puzzles.
Nov-06-06  jcb: Knight Life: Black's idea seems to be heading to 21...Rc3x. Why doesn't he pull the trigger on it?

How about this:

20. ... Rxc3
21. N(d)c4 Rxd3
22. Nxb6 Rxf3
23. Nxc8

and Black is left with both the rook at f3 and the knight at f6 hanging. I think this combination also works with 21. . . . Rxc3.

Let me know what I'm missing.

Nov-06-06  lvlaple: I'm pretty sure CG has used the Rh8 check, forced capture by king with a white pawn on g6 and a queen with access to h-file theme before.
Nov-06-06  hellohellofire: Hey guys can you help me on how to play blindfold chess? I really want to learn but it is still difficult to picture the bishop moves in the head. The knight is also a toughy. Any advice? Got this about 5 seconds btw.
Nov-06-06  flintrock: First post. Some of us Patzers are very happy with easy Monday puzzles. They stroke our ego. Isaac Asimov couldn't play chess either, by his own admission, despite his many other talents.

keypusher: <Flintrock> Welcome! Monday puzzles should never be abolished, unless Monday is as well.
Nov-06-06  shintaro go: Just right for a Monday puzzle.
Nov-06-06  donRamon72: <Monday puzzles should never be abolished> Indeed. We kibitzers must be the only people in the world who welcome mondays.
Nov-07-06  notyetagm: <Ashram64: it's almost a motiff for domino mate>

That's <Damiano Mate>.

Nov-07-06  flintrock: <hellohellofire> I'm just a patzer but for what it's worth -- George Koltanowski, a one-time blindfold champion, wrote that the way he learned the diagonals was to cut a chessboard up into quarters and memorize one-quarter at a time. It wasn't until sometime later that I realized that all the quarters are the same, so once you learn one, you learn them all,and just have to put them together.
Nov-07-06  syracrophy: A try for a pun:

"What the hell did the black Player thought when playing 24...f6??" =)

Nov-08-06  YouRang: I'm in kind of a smart-alecky mood...

<hellohellofire: Hey guys can you help me on how to play blindfold chess?> Peek.

<I really want to learn but it is still difficult to picture the bishop moves in the head.> Turn your head 45 degrees and picture a rook move.

<The knight is also a toughy. Any advice?> Hey, knights are tough even when you CAN see them.

<Got this about 5 seconds btw.> Yeah, I bet you peeked!

Domdaniel: <flintrock> Apart from Howard Staunton, have many other chess players grown such eccentrically Asimovian facial hair? Amos 'Side' Burn, begetter of the Burn variation in the French defence, perhaps?
Nov-30-06  flintrock: <Domdaniel> Zukertort, perhaps, or are his sideburns disqualified by his beard as merely a means to an end? btw, I looked at your forum today, enjoyed it immensely, and must congratulate you on your leadership in achieving the learned giddiness of it all!
