Fusilli: According to the Opening Explorer on this website, 9...Nh5 won in the two games where it was played (the other one being the stunning Beliavsky vs Nunn, 1985). Has no-one found suitable play for white yet?
Feb-18-24  King.Arthur.Brazil: Knowing Korchnoi style, he must play something like: 15...Rxc3+ 16. bxc3 Qa5... Why? Victor like complex positions, where he puts the opponent disorganized, unaware of his plans and forthcoming moves
Feb-18-24  mel gibson: I saw the first ply within 20 seconds
but after that it got blurry.

Stockfish 16 says:

15. .. Rxc3+

(15. .. Rxc3+ (1. ... Rxc3+ 2.bxc3 Qa5 3.Rh2 Qxc3+ 4.Rc2 Qa3+ 5.Kd2 Bd7 6.Qe3 Qa5+ 7.Kc1 Rf8 8.Be2 Ba4 9.Qd2 Qxd2+ 10.Rdxd2 Bh6 11.h4 Bxc2 12.g5 Bxg5 13.hxg5 Ba4 14.Rb2 b6 ) +5.81/46 417)

score for Black +5.81 depth 46.

Feb-18-24  Granny O Doul: @Fusilli: When Nunn annotated the game in "Secrets of Grandmaster Play" he recommended 9. Bg5 and felt it cast doubt on Black's plan with ...Ne5.

Of course, modern engines may have their own ideas.

Feb-18-24  BxChess: 24...Na3. The Knight on the rim has some vim.
Feb-18-24  newzild: In a blitz game I would play 15...Rxc3+ 16. bc Qa5 without even thinking.

scormus: Didn't get any further than 15. ... Rxc3+ 16.bxc3 Qa5. I thought ... Ba6 at a suitable time would come into it, but it seems I wasn't even on the same page. Difficult.

Feb-18-24  1300patzer: Stockfish says the sac on c3 can come 2 moves earlier than the game, right after White castles. One line: 13... Rxc3+ 14. bxc3 Nf6 15. Re1 Qa5 16. Bg3 Bd7 17. Bxe5 dxe5 18. Nf3 e4 (-2.49)

How sad Korchnoi was White here!

Feb-18-24  TheBish: It's not every day you get to witness King Arthur being corrected by the Messiah!
Feb-18-24  sfm: <Fusilli: According to the Opening Explorer on this website, 9...Nh5... Has no-one found suitable play for white yet?> Hmm, don't have an answer - but I promise that should I run into one within the next ~20 years, I will post it.
Feb-19-24  sfm: Actually, the engine says that 9.h3(?) is weak, exactly because of 9.-,Nh5! What an inspired game by Roeder.
After 15.-,Rxc3+, White's position is indefensible - 'all that's required' are some quiet precise moves.

A win to write home about. Despite his 68 years at the time, Korchnoi was still in the world top-50, if my memory does not fail me.
