Jun-07-14  Gilmoy: I can see four GMs named Miles annotating this game ...

A model of Breyer-Zaitsev mutual angst. It's the first line I learned, and boy do I hate it :)

AylerKupp: There are 15 games in the OE database with Colm Daly playing the English opening; too bad they didn't pick one of those for GOTD. Then the game's title could have been "On a Colm Daly, You Can c4 Ever".
Jun-07-14  Naderone: p. m. short elo 2712 ?????

Annie K.: No, that would be Nigel Short.
Jun-07-14  superstoned: Spanish Torture
Jun-07-14  kevin86: 1 c4 a very explosive start.

White gives up the exchange to set up a rook/rook fork. Black resigns.

perfidious: Besides, Nigel Short would hardly be likely to play in the Irish Championship.
Jun-07-14  zanzibar: Colm to think of it, this pun comes up Short:

Jun-07-14  zanzibar: But I do like <AylerKupp>'s suggestion.
Jun-07-14  morfishine: White made short work of Black's position

Black go the short end of the stick

Black will resign shortly

Jun-07-14  shivasuri4: I suppose 63...axb5 holds the draw.
Jun-07-14  Helios727: How does white force the win if black plays 65... Rxc5 ?
Jun-08-14  shivasuri4: <Helios727>, after 64...Rxc5, the game should proceed with 65.Nxa6 Rbc8 66.Nxc5 Rxc5 67.Bxb5 Bxb5 68.Nf5, when the h6 pawn falls and White is two pawns up. With both being outside passers, the win should be easy.

Domdaniel: Daly and Short have both been among the strongest Irish players since the 1980s -- though both have been overtaken by players like Collins, Kelly, Quinn, Lopez etc, who all made the IM title in the same period.
