  PawnSac: MVL broke the 2700 barrier July 2008 a few months before this game. His opponent was 2368 in the October rating list. Not in the same weight class for sure, but it's interesting to watch MVL accumulate greater advantage as the game proceeds.

  Retireborn: Megabase calls the black player Robert Lagerman (not known on here) and even has a photo of the guy.

I suspect that Hardarson and Lagerman are the same person though. Lagerman does look like a nickname.

  perfidious: According to the bio here, Hardarson and Lagerman are indeed the same person, but when one reviews his FIDE page, he is very much white:
