Jun-22-15 | | alphee: Nice monday puzzle. At first sight I thought 20. ♗xg5+ ♔xg5 21. ♕h5+ would do the job but no, 21. ♘e4+ ♔g4 was needed before the queen closed the game with 22. ♕h5+ |
Jun-22-15
 | | Bubo bubo: White completes the king hunt with 20.Bxg5+ Kxg5 21.Ne4+ Kg4 22.Qh5# |
Jun-22-15 | | morfishine: <20.Bxg5+> forces mate: 20...Kxg5 21.Ne4+ Kg4 22.Qh5# Neat the way the Knight shut down <e6> ***** |
Jun-22-15 | | Oxspawn: I had
20 Ne4+ Ke6
21. Qh3#
but it must be wrong since everyone else has Bxg5.
I am aware of my brain cells atrophying so I am not sure I want to look again and see what a disaster this is. |
Jun-22-15 | | Viennablue: Weren't I on holiday with a very poor internet/wifi connection, thus being forced to stare a long time at the CG starting page, my *mating* solution would also have been 20.Bxg5+ followed by 21.Qh4...and not #.
I'd also vote for: above average for a monday! |
Jun-22-15 | | Oxspawn: OK so it's not mate and the king escapes.. but apart from that it is perfect. I hate Mondays. |
Jun-22-15 | | CHESSTTCAMPS: White's 3-piece attack has extracted the king from safety, so a new participant can come in and help finish the job: 20.Bxg5+ Kxg5 21.Ne4+ Kg4 22.Qh5# A different forcing move does not get the job done: 20.Ne4+ Ke6 21.Qh3+ Kd5 and black is still alive. |
Jun-22-15 | | zb2cr: Sacrificing the Bishop puts the Black King on a square where the White Knight doesn't have to hold e6, so it can check from e4! |
Jun-22-15 | | Abdel Irada: Okay, it's not a queen sac, but how is this anything other than a Monday puzzle? A forthright enticement to g5, where the king has no retreat after the knight check -- all forced -- doesn't seem particularly demanding. ∞ |
Jun-22-15 | | dfcx: Love Mondays. This one is a little harder than usual,
20.Bxg5+ Kxg5
21.Ne4+ (block the escape at f6) Kg4
22.Qh5# |
Jun-22-15 | | Abdel Irada: Now, how did a game between an A player and a C player get in the database? I thought as a rule at least one contestant was supposed to be of master strength or close to it. ∞ |
Jun-22-15 | | mel gibson: Abdel Irada: Now, how did a game between an A player and a C player get in the database?
I thought as a rule at least one contestant was supposed to be of master strength or close to it. I thought the same thing.
Black played a terrible game but is
only rated less than 1600. |
Jun-22-15 | | whiteshark: I especially like <21.Ne4+> covering all the dark squares. Good team work w/ ♗g6. |
Jun-22-15 | | starry2013: <lost in space:
20. Bxg5+ Kxg5 21. Ne4+ Kg4 22. Qh5#>
I got this eventually but it did take quite some time. The first move I saw as a likely candidate straight away, but to see a way to seal the deal right after that was far from easy. |
Jun-22-15 | | Abdel Irada: <starry2013>: The key is realizing that from e4, the knight controls f6 as well as g5. ∞ |
Jun-22-15 | | kevin86: This is NOT a Monday puzzle! |
Jun-22-15 | | BOSTER: <A.I.:how did a game a C player get in the database?>. <Tradewise Gibraltar> is the countless spring for such games.
In spite of low rating this player has 18 games in database, and as a Monday performer made a good spectacle with many comments. |
Jun-22-15 | | Oxspawn: <kevin86: This is NOT a Monday puzzle!>
I just checked with my date-database computer (diary) and apparently it is a Monday puzzle - for a few hours more. But if you look at it tomorrow then you will be right. |
Jun-22-15 | | starry2013: Somehow it looked tempting to open it up for the rooks, even though that was obviously not a short win. I did see knight checks available at times, and that continues the forcing play, but you could bring the queen down to check and then the king could escape. |
Jun-22-15 | | BOSTER: Maybe the correct Q should be
< Why>? |
Jun-22-15 | | Kyudaime: 20. Bxg5+ and 20. Ne4+ are both wins for White. |
Jun-22-15 | | Longview: My board view is suffering. I got the 20. Bg5+ as a forced reply 20...Kxg5. I wanted to follow with 21. Qh5+ thinking the Kg6 response would be silenced by Qf5# but I missed the c8 bishop lurking on the diagonal. I thought I had it and did not look at the 21. Ne4......ugh another blunder loss. |
Jun-22-15 | | lochan.kuruwita: This too will do..
20.Ne4+ Ke6 21.Qh3+ Kd5 c4 ++ |
Jun-23-15 | | stst: Too bad no time but to take this easy one:
20.Bxg5+ Kxg5
21.Ne4+ Kg4
22.Qh5#
hope that's accurate... |
Jun-23-15 | | stst: <<This too will do..
20.Ne4+ Ke6 21.Qh3+ Kd5 c4 ++>>
Unfortunately the last move "c4++" can be refuted by PxP e.p. and there's no immediate mating move for White, even though the B can go up e3 to guard the remaining escape square d4. White has to move its Q first to avoid being attacked by the Black B @c8. |
