Teyss: I said yesterday Missy would find an appropriate pun today and she did. Nice hommage to Regan's 1980 campaign.

White went wrong and Black took advantage (talking about the game now) on move 31: White apparently didn't see the exchange sac. After 33...Re4 if the WQ moves, Black wins with 34...Qd3+ 35.Kh2 (35.Kf2 Re2+) Rh4+ 36.Kg1 Qe3+ 37.Qf2 (37.Kf1 Rh1#) Rh1+ 38.Kxh1 Qxf2 with Q+B vs 2 Rs and a good position.

After the desperado (or desperate) 34.R1c5 SF says 34...♕d4 is best, so either Black missed it, either he wanted to simplify to a superior Q+P vs Q endgame, White's Pawn structure being miserable.

Nov-07-24  jffun1958: Very suitable to the outcome of the election. Excellent pun.

perfidious: The only way to obviate the forcing line given by <Teyss> is to play 34.Qd1, but that loses rather more straightforwardly to 34....Qxe5+ 35.Kf2 Rf4+, when White's three heavy pieces find themselves quite unable to come to the aid of their monarch.

Following the suggestion 34....Qd4 by <fishie>, there may be some complications, so it is hard to fault Black for going in for the queen ending, which is an easy technical win.
