May-14-12  SetNoEscapeOn: <talisman: Kirsan must have found religion.>

He didn't have to find it. Just like chess, religion was brought to us :)

May-14-12  IgyZz: Huh, I really don`t see any point in these long art lectures...Thank You Natalia and Jen for making this game so pleasent for the rest of us!
May-14-12  Ulhumbrus: On 20...Bxf6 21 Rxd2 Bxd4 22 Rxd4 Rc2 White has an extra d pawn but his development lags. However the d pawn may become a threat after advancing to d6. One sequence is 23 b3 Bb5 24 bxa4 Bxe2 25 Bxe2 Rxe2 26 d6 Rd8 27 d7 Re7 28 Rhd1 Kf7 and if the black can overpower the d pawn the game may end in a draw.

Natalia Pogonina: @Jen Here (Anand-Gelfand World Chess Championship (2012)) you look like gorgeous though, while my pic is from a period when I was much younger & with a funny hair-style during one of the press conferences. :P Anyway, the pics and avatars were chosen by ChessGames, not us. :)
May-14-12  talisman: <SetNoEscapeOn> LOL...i guess Timman will come back when the game is over!

moronovich: <peyote: just got me wondering if 2 people can balance on a chess board>

Lol! I think that is called good kama.

May-14-12  Ulhumbrus: What did the extra-terrestrials tell Ilyumzhinov about religion?
May-14-12  twinlark: 21...Rd6 followed by 22...Nb6 picks up the d-pawn. Looks equal.
May-14-12  Octavia: <When the game is finshed they will place all the pieces in a little wooden box.> Carls used to open with 1 c4. One day some friends glued the pawn to its original square!

If both of you email me a few thousand pics, I'll choose the best.

May-14-12  Memethecat: another draw?
May-14-12  talisman: they could at least talk about some Hindu religion.

tamar: We can always look forward to the next game-where the live feed will have a lecture on portraits of Catherine the Great!
May-14-12  hoodrobin: Please <Natalia and Jen> have a look at OhioChessFan (avatar) :)
May-14-12  peyote: Positional Chess at it's best?
May-14-12  Eyal: On some alternatives for White on move 19:

<No other means of improving the position was visible. Much worse was 19. fxe4?! Nxc3 20. Bxc3 ( in case of 20. Nxc3 Nxe4 21. Nxe4 Qxd2 you can't take on d2 with the rook due to mate on the back rank ) 20... Qa4! 21. Qd4 Rfe8! - Black takes on e4 and develops a dangerous initiative. It looked a bit clumsy to play 19. Rh4 exf3 20. gxf3 b5! and Black again has good counterplay. It was worth considering the cunning prophylaxis 19. a3 , eliminating the back rank weakness. It seems that in this case there would follow 19... exf3 20. gxf3 b5 with the threat of b5-b4, which would have forced new simplifications: 21. Nxa4 Qxd2 22. Rxd2 bxa4 with roughly even chances> (Shipov)

May-14-12  twinlark: Wonder why Gelfand didn't go after the pawn?

OhioChessFan: White's King Rook is really ugly looking.

JenShahade: And now after Bxg7 Kxg7 White still has some challenges to complete his kingside development because the knight on e2 is guarding the c1-square--without developing the knight, we can't develop our bishop or rook either (though we could consider a "ROVER" with Rh4-d4.) It's quite annoying for an amateur player to be in such a bind, but I find that the stronger the player, the more appreciative they are of a pawn, even with troubles.
May-14-12  twinlark: 23. d6 looks better now than it would have been in the thematic position.

Natalia Pogonina: 23.d6 ♘b6 24.♘c3 ♖d5! and the pawn will be lost.

tamar: 23 Rh4 Nb6 24 R4-d4 looks most ambitious, but 24...Nc4 is hard to meet.

Sneaky: <Natalia Pogonina: 19.Nxe4 Qxd2 20.Nxf6 Rxf6 21.Rd2 Rf5 22.Bxg7 Kxg7 and Black will play c5 and b6 regaining the pawn with equality. White is behind on development.> Woah! Credit where it's due, Natalia was spot on.

OhioChessFan: When I was 10, a kid used to develop his Rooks with Ra4 and Rh4. Vishy may have to do that now with the King Rook. I see no other viable options.
