May-14-12  Eyal: <twinlark> 21...Rd6 22.Bxg7 Kxg7 23.b3 Nb6 24.Nf4 doesn't win back the pawn, at least not immediately - e.g., 24...Rc5 25.Bd3! Nxd5?? 26.Be4.
May-14-12  Memethecat: <cunning prophylaxis> clever condom?
May-14-12  SetNoEscapeOn: Anand vs Kramnik, 2008 is a good example of what Jen was talking about.

Natalia Pogonina: <OhioChesFan> You would be surprised to know how many 2700+ grandmasters offered their services for the book. Not mentioning their names right now due to privacy issues. :P

JenShahade: I do think there is a high chance for another draw. Very good preparation by Gelfand.
May-14-12  twinlark: <Natalia Pogonina: 23.d6 Nb6 24.Nc3 Rd5! and the pawn will be lost.>

25. Rd3 holds onto it, surely? Or maybe 25. Rxd5 Nxd5 26. Bb5?

kingscrusher: <tamar> That line is really resourceful with Rh4. If black gets in Nc4, then the blockade with Nd6 looks interesting. Maybe the pawn doesn't mean much there.

Natalia Pogonina: A typical case when better development compensates for the extra pawn. White will have to spend precious time to untangle the pieces.

tamar: Does this drawish outcome mean that 16 Ka1 was a wasted move?

plang: Gelfand is one of the experts on the White side of the 8 Rb1 in the exchange line (D85). Don't think he has ever played the Black side.

I can't remember Anand playing either side of that gambit.

May-14-12  Eyal: < twinlark: <Natalia Pogonina: 23.d6 Nb6 24.Nc3 Rd5! and the pawn will be lost.> 25. Rd3 holds onto it, surely?>

25.Rd3 Bf5 26.Rxd5 Nxd5 and Black wins back the pawn on c3 (27.Nxd5?? Rc1#).

May-14-12  twinlark: <You would be surprised to know how many 2700+ grandmasters offered their services for the book.>

There's nothing quite like true dedication to the noble game.

May-14-12  marwanredman123: Beautiful pic!!
May-14-12  bwarnock: How about 23. ♖h4 to get the other rook in the game... (?) (Idea is to play 24. ♖hd4 and 25. b3)

Natalia Pogonina: Both GMs seem to be playing very tightly and cautiously, basically trying to capitalize on a blunder or take advantage of the other person's inability to recall a certain line. So far it has led to two draws and a third drawish position.
May-14-12  queenfortwopawns: I'd play b3 to get rid of the knight and be rid of pesky mate threats. But then again, my rating's a tad lower than 2700.
May-14-12  IgyZz: Wow wonderful pic ,Jen. I am sure only You could tell the difference between the pieces...the best way to trick the opponents!

kingscrusher: Rh4 seems a likely move for White here

Benzol: How is White going to develop his Bishop? Black is more active but White has the extra pawn. An interesting situation. At this moment I think I'd rather have the Black pieces.

<JenShahade> Thanks for your book "Chess Bitch", I found it an enjoyable read. BTW did you manage to contact <WT Harvey>?

May-14-12  twinlark: <Eyal>

<27. g4> holds onto the pawn but it looks to becoming so simplified, it doesn't mean much, especially as the extra pawn won't be the d-passer.

tamar: <kingscrusher> Timman is analyzing 23 Rh4 Bb5, which also looks possible as does 23...Re5.

Just hard for White with the undeveloped bishop.

JenShahade: @Benzol Thank you! SO glad you enjoyed Chess Bitch- Play Like a Girl is a recent "prequel" I wrote for younger girls. I did contact Harvey a few years ago and he wrote one of the first articles for uschess.org/clo What a great site he put together!

I agree Rh4 is a definite possibility.

  Natalia Pogonina: <kingscrusher> I like d6 more.

23.♖h4 ♘b6 24.♘c3 ♖xd5! 25.♖xd5 ♘xd5 - back rank problems, no good for White.

May-14-12  twinlark: <27...g4> maybe not...

Looks like another draw coming up.
