 | | An Englishman: Good Afternoon: If I had found this game, my pathetic best pun idea would have consisted of "Mona-Lisa." However, have to ask--didn't Black have at least a slight edge after about move 20? |

Feb-09-25 | | goodevans: <...didn't Black have at least a slight edge after about move 20?> I reckon so.
It would seem that edge began to slip when she initiated the trade of Rs a few moves later. I cannot fathom why she would do that. Her two Rs on the c-file were an obvious thorn in White’s side. Things got a little worse when she appears to have underestimated <40.Nf6!> (threatening to mate with 41.Rc8, etc.). If she’d seen that, I doubt she’d have embarked on the 37...Bd3/38...Bd1 manoeuvre. The fatal mistake, clearly, was the final exchange of minors. If she’d avoided that she might have survived but the resulting R+P endgame was obviously hopeless. A very nice GOTD for us to enjoy. |

"The title of the painting, which is known in English as Mona Lisa, is based on the presumption that it depicts Lisa del Giocondo, although her likeness is uncertain. (...) Monna in Italian is a polite form of address originating as ma donna—similar to Ma'am, Madam, or my lady in English. (...) The Italian name for the painting, La Gioconda, means "jocund" ("happy" or "jovial"), or literally "the jocund one", a pun on the feminine form of Lisa's married name, Giocondo." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mona_... 🎵 END OF THE MINUTE OF GENERAL CULTURE 🎵
Fun fact: there's a new project for the Louvre where the painting would be relocated to a dedicated room instead of being in a general room where tourist cram in to take pictures and selfies. |

Feb-09-25 | | goodevans: <Fun fact: there's a new project for the Louvre where the painting would be relocated to a dedicated room...> ... for which an additional admission price will apply. Personally, I’ve never really got all the Mona Lisa hype. Seeing it in person didn’t help. The Louvre has better things to offer and if charging extra for La Giocondo means they end up with more attention then that’s a good thing. |

Feb-09-25 | | stone free or die: Great art makes, and box office takes, castigating fakes? To denigrate <Citizen Kane>, what sacrilege! What's next - casing aspersions on <The Oregon Trail>? The greats, especially the early trail blazers, will withstand the slings and arrows of such outrageous fortune. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_... |

 | | An Englishman: Good Evening: Always liked the Mona Lisa; couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking. But I agree with <stone free or die>; my favorite work at the Louvre is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. And yes, <keypusher>, Citizen Kane really is great. |

Feb-10-25 | | stone free or die: RE: <Citizen Kane> There's some online debate about its "greatness" here: https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/com... One post I can particularly recommend is <boots-and-cats> about 10% down. |
