Jan-25-13  OneArmedScissor: go anand!
Jan-25-13  haydn20: Hou has put up a stupendous defense, in terrible time-trouble, just to get here, where she looks to be losing anyway. Her experience with the "big boys" can only help her.
Jan-25-13  queenfortwopawns: Houdini says ..Nf5 loses the advantage.
Jan-25-13  Marmot PFL: Can't she trade knights and draw the pawn ending? It looks that way but she may trust the world champ and avoid the trade.
Jan-25-13  haydn20: Hm...43. Nxf5 Kxf5 44. a4 and does shr have time to distract the K to the Qside and stop the Kside P's?

SteinitzLives: Best try is to trade Ns and then it looks like a double edged K and P ending, probably drawn.
Jan-25-13  Marmot PFL: 43 Nxf5 Kxf5 44 a4 ke6 45 g4
Jan-25-13  Eyal: <Houdini says ..Nf5 loses the advantage> Houdini on the official site doesn't see a win for White after 43.Nxf5 in 18-19 ply-depth, but I would be surprised if Anand initiated a knight exchange without making sure that the pawn endgame is winning.
Jan-25-13  Marmot PFL: I see Anand shaking his head.
Jan-25-13  Eyal: Well, maybe it's a draw after all...

keypusher: Hou do you like that!
Jan-25-13  Ulhumbrus: 45...Kd5 takes the opposition : 46 Kc3 Ke4 or 46 Ke3 Kc4
Jan-25-13  queenfortwopawns: Meanwhile Naka resigned.

SteinitzLives: Blacks' pawns and king seem neutralized, I think it's a draw.
Jan-25-13  hms123: Anand missed <40...Ne4+>

AylerKupp: Rybka 4.1 seems to agree with Anand. It evaluates the position at [-0.21], d-28. Black can't move his king to the k-side to support his passer(s) without letting White's q-side pawns get through.
Jan-25-13  haydn20: Wow! 45. g4! fixing the f & h Pawns seems to do the trick. Nice draw.

SteinitzLives: Yeah, Naka was busted ten moves ago.
Jan-25-13  Marmot PFL: Anand could have played 42...h5, then Nf5 would work i think as black always has f5. Instead he has a "one pawn stops two" situation.
Jan-25-13  queenfortwopawns: Yeah, Ne4 winning the pawn seemed like an obvious move. I didn't understand the knight exchange. But this game is very much alive. Hou needs to be very careful.

plang: White has to play 46 Kc3 doesn't she?
Jan-25-13  Marmot PFL: 46 Kc3 the only move but adequate as e4 might even lose for black.

plang: Maybe 46 a5 is OK but I think 46 Ke3..Kc4 wins for Black

plang: Forget 46 a5 - that loses as well
Jan-25-13  Marmot PFL: 46 a5 Kd6 47 kc4 Kc6 and i think black wins.
