AylerKupp: FWIW at d=29 Critter announces mate for Black in not more than 23 moves. However, I doubt that Caruana worked it all out in the 0:01 he had left in his clock. An unfortunate loss.
Feb-16-13  abdulruff: One doubts if there is nay understanding among the players about the outcome each day. And other tournaments! Also, if some other agencies decide the outcomes of the tournaments and rounds?

Maybe some proper intelligence work is needed.

Feb-16-13  abdulruff: It looks Caruana lost the round deliberately on advice or something. Maybe he get extra money. Just a hunch.
Feb-16-13  fokers13: <abdulruff> the new Caruana-bot.
Feb-16-13  abdulruff: A thought: why not vote for their Favorite player and declare him as champion in stead of this lengthy process of hours? ?
Feb-16-13  Jim Bartle: abdulruff: It looks Caruana lost the round deliberately on advice or something. Maybe he get extra money. Just a hunch.

Oh, I agree entirely. He lost intentionally.

"it isn't your day, kid."

"Isn't my day. I coulda taken Adams apart. I coulda been a contender."

chancho: This obviously helps Anand in the standings.
Feb-16-13  FadeThePublic: Fab didnt even show up for the post game, he seems like a lil b...primmadonna to me he had no problem showing up for his wins gloating. Weak sauce.
Feb-16-13  morfishine: <FSR> I had to step out and missed the ending. Great win by Adams!

I was worried, what with that banana suit, that he would, you know...slip

Feb-16-13  WBP: I don't have an engine of any kind, so maybe someone who does can confirm or correct my analysis. In the final position, Black threatens both 55...Rd2+ and Rd1, both of which would prove quickly fatal for White. 55 Qf2 may be White's best <on 55 Rb2, then Rd1, with the same position that arises below>, but then there follows 55...Rd1 56 Rb2 <what else? 56 Qg2 drops the Queen to 56...Qh4+ 57 Qh3 Rh1+. Should the Queen move anywhere else on the second rank [b2, for example], there follows 56... Qh4+ 57 Kg2 Rh1, with catastrophe to follow> Qh5+ 57 Kg3 <57 Kg2 loses to 57...Qh1+ and 58...Rg1+> Rh1 and White now must lose the Queen or get mated.
Feb-16-13  whiteshark: I reference to my very 1st comment on this game I've to state that <We all make mistakes.> ;)

FSR: <morfishine> Heh. He did slip a bit, but Caruana slipped more.

AylerKupp: <morfishine> You are in great form today! I can hardly wait to see what you come up with tomorrow.
Feb-16-13  morfishine: <AylerKupp> Great to hear from you! I wish my analysis was in decent form...I'm the one slipping there

*At least I latched onto the idea of Adams transferring his Queen to the King-side, albeit not like I suggested

BTW: I found another Tal game I'll send over to you tomorrow

Feb-16-13  csmath: I think Caruana was completely positionally outplayed here in the middlegame. Amazingly he allowed knight to c4 and then played f4, both clearly positionally dubious moves that made his position hard to hold. Moreover he seemed to be completely devoid of any ideas afterwards and played quite a weak game. Looks like he was even surprised when Adams did 44. ... Ne5.

Cheers for Mickey. Mickey knows to play positional chess and he proved it. It was obvious to provide crushing tactics at the end but Mickey did it very nice and precise. Fine game for Adams and thankfuly he is out of the bottom of the table.

Feb-16-13  SirRuthless: Caruana got what he deserved for yesterday's cack.
Feb-16-13  messachess: 'Mickey' has had a great career, and he's still going. Kudos.
Feb-16-13  Eyal: Adams mentioned that Caruana offered him a draw after 41.Nxe4.

HeMateMe: Nice technique from the Mick.
Feb-17-13  Everett: Interesting thing is that Adams has been playing with the Catalan as White recently.
Feb-17-13  theodor: <<Ulhumbrus>: 48...Nxh3! begins a king hunt: 49 Bxh3 Qf3+ 50 Kh4 ( 50 Kh2 Rc2+ wins) 50...g5+! 51 fg+ hg+ 52 Kxg5 Rg6+ 53 Kh4 Rh6+ 54 Kg5 Rg8 mate> 48...Qe2 is very interesting agressif move!
Dec-10-14  Conrad93: White puts the bishop on g2 and it stays stuck there the entire game.

The Catalan is a truly terrible opening.
