Dec-12-14  jimcrickman143: I know Zukertort died during this tournament at Simpson's Divan, but was this the final game of his life?
Jan-31-16  Fanacas: Seems like it was, if it was at least he went out with a great game.
Sep-07-22  Atking: Yes Zukertort impressed until his last moment. This strange opening was still popular at time. Indeed even a piece down 13.Qd2 the fight looks quite balanced. Notwithstanding getting the square g5 by 17.Bxh6! looks immediately decisive (17...BxB 18.Rf6+!) a better form of Zukertort idea could be 21.e5 as 21...dxe 22.dxe Nxe5 23.RxB! QxR 24.QxQ NxQ 25.Bd3+ mates with the manover Ng6-Ne5-Nf7.
Sep-08-22  Granny O Doul: William H Grundy, mated on Wednesday.

jnpope: Contrary to Jimmy Adams book on Zukertort, this was just an offhand game played at Simpson's Divan.

Grundy was not a participant in the 1888 Simpson's Divan Handicap Tournament. The participants were: Ball (withdrew after one game), Bird, Evans (withdrew after six games), Gaitskill, Gibbons, Gunsberg, Hicks, Jackson (withdrew after two games), Kindermann, Lee, Mason, Mortimer, Muller, Pollock, Purchase, Rolland, Sellon, and Zukertort.
