MissScarlett: Illustrated Sport & Dramatic News, December 19th 1891, p.459:

<The Rev. W. Grundy, head-master of Malvern, who died not many days ago after a very short illness, deserves a notice. In him we have lost an accomplished chess-player, and most amiable man. I remember some years ago when he was head master of Warwick School, he offered, if the "Counties" would hold their annual meeting during holiday time, to entertain about thirty visitors at the School house. Few men, if any, were better liked in London circles than the Rev. W. Grundy.>
