  offramp: White might also play ♙h2-h3 ΔBg4, to swap off the black bishop.
Sep-26-16  Boomie: ->

So...How's Wesley doing?

Sep-26-16  Boomie: ->

Giri holds all the chips in this one. He can torture Anand for a long time. Looks like he's planning to get his king to b5. But it will take a long time if ever for him to get there.

Sep-26-16  Marmot PFL: Anand will find the draw, if gf4 Rg2

  An Englishman: Good Morning: Happy Tal Memorial, everyone! Just arrived to see the position after 35.Nc3. The move might threaten Nd5+,Bxd5; Rxd5 and White has the advantage of Bishop v. Knight on an open board with a target at b7. Although almost certainly a draw, the game doesn't seem quite dead yet. The Rook check was a nice annoying little counter, because f2-f3 takes away a great square from the Be2.
Sep-26-16  truepacifism: Definately looks like it's going to be a draw to me. Perhaps there is a very slim chance that it won't be, but I can't see anything that would indicate otherwise.
Sep-26-16  Boomie: <Definately looks like it's going to be a draw>

Perhaps but I get the feeling that Lasker or Capablanca would demonstrate a win for white here.

  offramp: If White could manoeuvre into a position similar to this he'd be doing all right.

Against Anand?

White is better, of course; the position is somewhere between a win and a draw. But, if that win is not really there, Anand is as good as anyone in history to hold on to the draw.

Sep-26-16  Boomie: <Gypsy: Against Anand?>

Well, I guess I meant they would show the method leading to a winning position. Of course, the proof is in the pudding and against a supreme tactician like Anand, achieving the win may not be possible.

  offramp: Giri might go "around the block" once or twice before undertaking definite action. I don't think he will undertake definite action. I think they'll agree a draw soon.
Sep-26-16  Gypsy: <Boomie> You right, at issue is Giri, not Anand. (So far, he seems to be pressing Anand expertly.)

  offramp: If non-chess players saw us, staring at our screens, watching this load of old twaddle, they would laugh into their rakfisk.
Sep-26-16  Gypsy: twad·dle
ˈtwädl/
informal noun: twaddle

1.
trivial or foolish speech or writing; nonsense. "he dismissed the novel as self-indulgent twaddle"

verbarchaic
verb: twaddle; 3rd person present: twaddles; past tense: twaddled; past participle: twaddled; gerund or present participle: twaddling

1.
talk or write in a trivial or foolish way.
"what is that old fellow twaddling about?"

  An Englishman: Good Evening: Black needed to chase the White King from the strong d4 square, and I suspect that Anand intends to use checks from the Rook as a sort of "defense by harassment," for lack of a better term. Giri seems to have increased his edge, but winning this game still looks very difficult.

I should make it clear that I was referring to the game, not the comments! I think the comments were top-class and non-twaddly.

Sep-26-16  Octavia: I enjoyed this gentle discussion & the game. I'm not good enough to judge if it could enter a 'best draws' book
Sep-26-16  Gypsy: <offramp> Oh, no worries: I appreciate your philosophical perspective.

Yet, English not being my native tongue, I looked up the less than familiar expression. I sensed 'the gist of it' but decided to make sure.

Sep-26-16  Chesstorian72: Of course little twerp giri drew, when he plays svidler or kramnik he will lose for sure, since he is their punching bag.
Dec-29-16  thegoodanarchist: <offramp: If non-chess players saw us, staring at our screens, (a) load of old twaddle...>

Don't be so hard on yourself! You're not that horrible!

And remember, on the internet, everybody smells minty fresh.

The above is twaddle.
