 | | ketchuplover: Down goes Caruana! |
Apr-15-17 | | Ulhumbrus: Is 14...f6 necessary? 14...Ng7 gets ready for ...Bf5 without delay |
Apr-15-17 | | Imran Iskandar: 15...Rf7 is inexplicable. Is a rook on f7 thematic in any lines in this opening? |

Apr-15-17 | | Captain Hindsight: Better would have been <17. ...b6>. |
Apr-15-17 | | Sokrates: Excellent play by the true women's world champion. I reckon this is a huge personal achievement for Hou. Caruana is very hard to beat. Congratulations are in order! |
Apr-15-17 | | SirRuthless: Caruana has been in terrible shape for the whole year. Not to take anything from Hou but he is at a low point since his run at Sinq Cup 2015. He probably won't qualify by rating and he chose yo skip GP series. World Cup is a crapshoot and wildcard will probably go to a Russian again since they always seem to win Candidates hosting duties. |
Apr-15-17 | | JohnBoy: EGAD CARUANA IS TOTALLY WASHED UP HE SUX SUX SUX!!! (Just heading off the trolls) |
Apr-15-17 | | whiteshark: With this defeat Caruana is now below 2800 ELO in the live-rating list: 4 ↓1 Caruana 2799.1

Apr-15-17 | | Boomie: <Imran Iskandar: 15...Rf7 is inexplicable.> Black's pieces are clearly misplaced. The Bd6 belongs on g7 to fill those black holes. His other pieces seem to be stumbling over each other. Perhaps Rf7 is a prelude to Bf8. Or does he want to double up on the f-file? I have noticed that Hou plays the openings at least as well as her opponents. She almost always has a plus coming out of the opening. Although Caruana is perhaps the leading openings expert, he is outplayed here. |
Apr-15-17 | | SirRuthless: To see Caruana get blown off the board in his pet Ruy is a shocking thing. It feels like his g6-g5 idea was not good but having to play around the white-owned e file for half the game didn't help much either. |
Apr-15-17 | | shintaro go: Berlin got cracked |
Apr-15-17
 | | tamar: Leko originally thought that 23 Qd2 allowed 23...Nf5, but when it appeared on the board, he saw the trick Hou had prepared if 23...Nf5 24 Bxf5 Bxf5 25 Re8+ Qxe8 26 Rxe8+ Rxe8 27 Qxd5 attacking both bishops |
Apr-16-17
 | | maturner: Caruana has been in a slump but so has Hou until now. |

Apr-16-17
 | | HeMateMe: what's the finishing line? |
Apr-16-17 | | Nerwal: <what's the finishing line?>
After some checks ♖1e3 will be decisive. |
Apr-16-17 | | Jambow: What a nice game by Hou, her pieces were influencing the whole board, tactically brilliant. Fab is just having a rough go of it the last few weeks. |

It's like falling off a cliff. |

Apr-16-17 | | whiteshark: Repost from the tournament discussion page:
<alfamikewhiskey: <[CB R1*] report> Fun fact from that report (given it is a fact): Hou-Caruana 1-0: <this was the second time a woman beats a 2800-rated in classical chess. The only other instance dates back to 2006 when Judit Polgar won against Topalov.>> * http://en.chessbase.com/post/grenke... |

Apr-16-17 | | j4jishnu: Congratulations Yifan. You are a gem. |

Apr-16-17 | | JohnBoy: <Norwalk, HMM> - I like 40...Kg6 41.Qg3 Kf5 42.R (either) e5 fe5 43.Re5 Kf6 44.Qg5# |
Apr-16-17 | | The Kings Domain: Disappointing game by Caruana, he should have won this, considering his opponent's recent whipping by Ivanchuk. Uncharacteristic lifeless play by the Italian master. |
Apr-16-17
 | | HeMateMe: nice mate john boy! |
Apr-16-17 | | Marmot PFL: Good game by Hou but black essentially damaged his own pawn structure with 17...c5 and 20...g5. |
