Kibitzer's Corner
Oct-17-18  Albanius: After Magnus's mediocre moves 22-24,
Ding made him an offer he couldn't accept,
but Magnus escaped like Houdini.
Stockfish suggests
44..Rxc2
45 Nxf4 Rc1+
46 Kh2 gxf4
with good winning chances.
Oct-18-18  ex0duz: Damn so close and yet so far.

Great defense by Magnus. If Ding could have won this it would have capped off an amazing run of form and gained him the max rating he could gain from a single win, maybe he would be 2815 or more after this win(if he won).

It didn't seem that complex either, dunno why Ding missed the win. Guess that's chess.. After hours at the board even Carlsen will make more inaccuracies.

It would have propelled him to 2817,7 and Carlsen would have been at 2830,8. A number that would have made Caruana (2832,3) the World #1.

Oct-18-18  Caissa04: Ding Liren is a calculating mastermind until the excitement if winning gets the better of him.
Oct-18-18  SChesshevsky: <ex0duz: dunno why Ding missed the win>

Could be fallout from that Rapid and Blitz match where Carlsen was on fire.

Seemed many games Liren was pushing, maybe with a good advantage and Carlsen punished the one or two inaccuracies. Some of those seemed so brutal, it's not surprising the memory stuck.
