Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-14-22  Brenin: 32 Re8+ Rze8 (Bxe8 33 Qf8 mate) 33 Re8+ Bxe8 34 Qf8 mate). It took a few seconds to spot the B on a3.

  al wazir: Or 32. Re7 Rxe7 (32...Qxd2+ 33. Kb1 Rxe7 34. Rxe7 Qd1+ 35. Bc1 Qd3+ 36. Kb2 Qe2+ 37. Ka1) 33. Rxe7 Qxd2+ 34. Kb1 Be4+ 35. Rxe4 Qd3+ 36. Kb2 Qd2+ 37. Kb1 Qd1+ 38. Bc1 Qd3+ 39. Kb2 Qd7 40. Re7 Qxe7 41. fxe7 Re8.
Feb-14-22  Cheapo by the Dozen: Backrank rather than h-file. Yeah, that works for a Monday puzzle too. :)

And pretty much what <Brenin> said. Until one notices the bishop, it's natural to think that the 7th rank will be the main locus of action.

Feb-14-22  drollere: i had 32. Re8+ Rxe8, 33. Rxe8+ Bxe8, 34. Qf8# (33. .. Kf7, 34. Qf8#). and yes, i only looked for the QB after i wished it was there.
Feb-14-22  saturn2: The Bc6 is poisened and Re8 is mate in three.
Feb-14-22  agb2002: White has two extra pawns.

Black threatens Qxd2+.

The rook on d8 prevents Qf8#. Hence, 32.Re8+ Rxe8 (32... Bxe8 33.Qf8#; 32... Kf7 33.Qf8(g7)#) 33.Rxe8+ and 34.Qf8#.

  scormus: Exactly what <cheapo> said!
Feb-14-22  AlicesKnight: Re8+ mates thanks to control of f8.
Feb-14-22  saturn2: 3...Nf6 is better than 3...Qxd5. Usually white does not get anything out of the the Grand Prix attack.
Feb-14-22  TheaN: Put me in the group that spotted Ba3 somewhat late, but even then it took me a while. The f8 blockade is not immediately apparent. After that it's <game line (32-34)> and done.
Feb-14-22  TheaN: <saturn2: 3...Nf6 is better than 3...Qxd5. Usually white does not get anything out of the the Grand Prix attack.>

I concur with the last statement, and the former might be objectively true, but I can understand Black not wanting to play a modern Scandinavian hybrid with f4 and c5 included. Playing the Qd8-Scandinavian with a weakened White king side but a good idea, it went haywire far after.

Feb-14-22  whiteshark: Monday - back to the basics - base row mate - as my translator says.
Feb-14-22  murkia: Bd6 also wins :-)

Feb-14-22  Hercdon: Another Monday miss. Gosh I really am bad at chess
Feb-14-22  Fitzgerald Dawson: that makes 2 of us ! still fun to try
Feb-14-22  Damenlaeuferbauer: After long pondering, the four-times Danish champion GM Allan Stig Rasmussen finally found the mate in 3 moves with the nice rook sacrifice 32.Re8+!,Rxe8 (32.-,Bxe8 33.Qf8#; 32.-,Kf7 33.Qg7/Qf8#) 33.Rxe8+,Bxe8 (33.-,Kf7 34.Qf8#) 34.Qf8#. I agree, that black should have chosen 3.-,Nf6, a move played by giants like M. Tal, G. Kasparov, A. Shirov, M. Carlsen, and F. Caruana.
Feb-14-22  johnnydeep: God, why couldn't I see this? Gonna be a bad week...
Feb-14-22  Stanco: 32.Re8+ and Qf8#
