perfidious: Time for another long slog once Black breaks with either ....c5 or ....e5.

It's interesting to have a middle game with no bishops.

offramp: The old fashioned system was the minority attack, with Qa4, b4, Qb3, a4, b5 etc. That is all too slow... white would be checkmated way before that.

  Mateo: 10...Nfg8!? is unexpected.

offramp: 10...Ng8! Very good. The idea must be ...f5 then ...f4.

Mateo: <offramp: 10...Ng8! Very good. The idea must be ...f5 then ...f4.>I think Black rather anticipates e4 theatening e5 and is relocating his King Knight to e7.

offramp: I believe that white is in last position, and Giri is at the top.

Jan-18-24  whiteshark: Any Game without bishops is losing some colours...

perfidious: In the normal minority attack, Black looks to get the LSBs off, play for ....b7-b5 and exploit the weakness at c4. The pawn on d3 kills that idea stone dead.
Jan-18-24  vonKrolock: The Anti-Clericalist System
Jan-18-24  vonKrolock: If Black manage to play c6-c5, the game will look drawish
Jan-18-24  vonKrolock: ...but: well, white will not be able to dispute the vertical c, so black is better ...
Jan-18-24  whiteshark: one open file to trade them ♖♖♖♖ all?

An Englishman: Good Morning: Wouldn't surprise me if both players feel dissatisfied with their positions, no matter what the silicon monsters might say. White can't feel happy with the a-pawn, Black can't feel happy with the open c-file.

tamar: Karpovian play by Prag. Meaning good but hard to fathom

  offramp: The game looks level.

I would expect Giri to somehow try to win, against the tailender.

offramp: I didn't notice that both players were 2700+: in fact Pragg is 2743, Giri is 2749.

That is close!! In fact they are 0.00218% close to each other.

offramp: White has a serious pin on the ♘g6.

I suppose Giri will try to swap the queens off.

Botvinnik said that Knight endings are the same as pawn-endings.
It is really easy to go wrong in pawn-endings.

offramp: I therefore predict that Giri will win this game at move 54.
Jan-18-24  whiteshark: Draw!
