OhioChessFan: Interesting how quickly they became the Old Guard.

May-30-24  vonKrolock: Not surprised if this position appears in some game (for unstance with Tarrasch, and before 1890)
May-30-24  whiteshark: I wonder if 24...d5 is in their mind?

Check It Out: I thought this would be a draw for sure from the middle game. Don't get to queens and pawns vs Magnus, you'll go down.

May-30-24  goodevans: <fabelhaft: 66. Qa2+ was the only drawing move>

The threat 66...Qd1+ / 67...Qg1# meant there were only two moves for Caruana to choose from. If in doubt, play the check!

Fusilli: Elegant handling of the endgame by Carlsen. When he plays 51...h4, he fixes the white pawns in place, he knows his own g-pawn is unnecessary, and he has visualized the winning method by advancing his king to support the passer.

Caruana and Carlsen? They are reigning top players! Can't really consider them "old guard" until replaced. They are the present guard. Naka included.
