FSR: 4...f5? was previously seen in A Wojtkiewicz vs J Hector, 1992. Woj played the calm 5.Nc3. My 5.exf5 is equally strong according to Stockfish 17. But the best followup would have been 7.Nc3 Nf6 8.f3!, when Stockfish already gives White a decisive advantage.

The main appeal of this game to me is that I was able to respond to 21...Nxf2 with 22.O-O! I love being able to respond to Nxf7 or Nxf2 with O-O!, à la the immortal game F A Hoffmann vs A Petrov, 1844. I can only recall four times that I have done so. One was an "in-person" blitz game I played 50 years ago at my friend Norman Vorne's house. The last three were online blitz games. I scored 3-1 in them.

I am currently playing the Polugaevsky Variation of the Najdorf in three ICCF games, basically just to show that it is (sort of) playable, at least not actually losing. I might have been able to respond to Nxf7 with O-O in that game if, after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Bg5 e6 7.f4 b5 8.e5 dxe5 9.fxe5 Qc7 10.exf6 Qe5+ 11.Be2 Qxg5 12.O-O Ra7 13.Qd3 Rd7 14.Ne4 Qe5 15.Nf3, I had played 15...Rxd3 16.Nxe5 Rd4! 17.fxg7 Bxg7 18.Nxf7 O-O! This is best play by both sides after 15...Rxd3. Unfortunately, this is very bad for Black, albeit possibly tenable. I reluctantly decided to play 15...Qc7 16.Qe3 Qa7 instead, leading to an ending (or queenless middlegame if you prefer) that is still no bed of roses. All three games have gone down this route, and all should end in draws.

FSR: Another example of castling kingside with one's king rook under attack is Ljubojevic vs Stein, 1973, although in that game Ljubo could just as well have resigned.

An Englishman: Good Evening: "Only recall four time" you've castled in such a situation? Never got to play that move even once. Wondering if perhaps you own a world record.

perfidious: The one time I recall in my career that I got to pull that off was against a future GM:

perfidious: One from the praxis of a legend, though this was long castling:

A Novopashin vs Korchnoi, 1962
