May-13-25  drleper: <perfidious: At first glance, this seemed to me to be a poor form of the Centre Game for White; after ten moves he already looks to have the inferior position.> Just curious, what makes you say that white's position is inferior?

perfidious: <drleper>, my assessment was based on Caruana's queen being poorly placed and the loss of time he would have to incur to get her onside. This has happened, but now the rest of his development is a mess. Can White exploit ....g7-g5?

offramp: The Vienna Game. Both players are thinking, "Hmm, I remember from a game from a simultaneous between Blackburne and Naylor in 1885."

offramp: Deac played ...h6, then ...g5, then played ...0-0.

I have a feeling that Caruana will rip 'er to shreds.

offramp: When you look at Caruana you might think that he is a paper tiger. But he is a non-paper tiger.

Classical chess is SOOOOO boring.

May-13-25  Andrew Chapman: Patzer question: After 14.. d5, what does white do about the threat of d4, apparently winning the knight? If e4xd5 then Nxd5, and it looks like black is going to break up white's pawns around his castled king. a3 and b4 doesn't look great to me.

An Englishman: Good Morning: A Center Game. A freaking Center Game in a Super-GM tournament. Me five remaining brain cells have experienced an electrical short. Guessing that White's pawn mass on the King side plus the limited mobility of Black's Knights give Caruana the edge. Maybe.

The black knights look much better than the rooks.

OhioChessFan: Black to play his 43rd. I've given up trying to analyze it. I'd lose both sides, quickly. SF says it's equal. I'll just watch.

This ending could be really good!
I bet someone blunders.

OhioChessFan: f4 is the easy choice for one Knight. Too many variables for the other, although g5 looks pretty good.

offramp: <OhioChessFan>: That looks good, ...Nh7-g5-h3-f4.

OhioChessFan: Or Nh7/g5/e6. But a lot of ways the game can go,.

An Englishman: Good Morning: Still looks complicated to me, but betting that the players get frustrated and resort to perpetual check. Unless someone blunders, of course.

offramp: That was a good game. It had a good opening, middlegame and ending.

I saw Caruana in an interview after the game on YouTube.

It's strange that these 2800+ GMs are very vague about their thought processes.

"I could have ... I missed that ... I should have ... Later I was annoyed that ..."

FFS!!
