May-27-06 | | Knight13: I hate saying this, but this computer SUCKS! According to the WCCC 2006 homepage, this computer's rated 1440! I wonder how can a computer THIS WEAK participate in a World Championship? |
May-27-06 | | blingice: Well, it doesn't look like it plays really flimsy chess like FIBChess does. It plays basic, 3-4 ply chess, and the deeper calculating computers skool it. It seems to play just like a person that is decent at chess: solid, just not tactically or offensively very stong. |

The entry fees for the WCCC (exclusive of membership fee of the ICGA for 2006 for at least one person) are as follows: Amateur: Euro 25
Semi-professional: Euro 250
Professional: Euro 500 |

May-29-06 | | Akavall: This is a computer version of Kelly Cottrell :). |
May-29-06
 | | offramp: I too thought of the Kelly Cottrell analogy, in a good way. Like her, the creator of ETABETA has put his or her head above the parapet. I don't know anything about its creator(s), it could be a 14-year-old in an attic, but he, she or they are taking part, and that's the important thing. |
May-29-06
 | | Sneaky: I strongly suspect that ETABETA uses an unorthodox methodology of coming up with its moves, for example, a neural network. If this is the case than its creators should be applauded! This sort of reminds me of the people who made fun of the Wright Brothers when their airplane was nothing more than a highly ineffcient land vehicle. The speed or fuel-efficiency of the prototype airplanes was horrible, but wise men saw that there was a giant idea standing behind its so-called failures. |
May-29-06 | | blingice: Hey, let's not leave Alex Kulikov out of this conversation. |
May-29-06 | | cotdt: Congrats to ETABETA for smashing the computer chess engine BYE. |
May-29-06 | | notsodeepthought: <cotdt: Congrats to ETABETA for smashing the computer chess engine BYE.> Regrettably, the one time (thus far, and henceforth) that ETABETA overwhelms its opponent, the tournament organizers don't award it any points. How unfair. |
May-30-06 | | Dionyseus: This pathetic engine can't even manage a draw. Got mated in 24 moves today by ISIchess. |
May-30-06 | | CapablancaFan: Want a quality chess engine? Pick up Shredder! http://www.wholesalechess.com/chess... |

Jun-01-06
 | | alexmagnus: It's called etaBETA so be quiet, it's just the beta version:-) ("Eta" is accidentally russian word for the "this" in femininum). |
Jun-01-06 | | MoonlitKnight: This engine somehow reminds me of Eddie the Eagle... |
Jun-05-06 | | Karpova: http://www.ascotti.org/programming/...
<In the entry of debut Kiwi meets an its old knowledge: Etabeta. This program is the more original than conosca, and the sole than together to the evaluation of a wavy show also a comment written on the reason the movement is good or no. Unfortunately it search for Etabeta is too shallow respect to the more traditional algorithms, and often remains victim of combinations of whom it is noticed too late.> |
Jun-05-06 | | Chopin: I think ETABETA (Computer) would probably lose against Little ChessPartner. |
Jun-05-06 | | weisyschwarz: Call the Chess Bookies. I bet a five spot on Pogo to beat EtaBeta! :- |
Jun-05-06 | | cotdt: etabeta has extraordinary potential to become the computer chess champion. |
Jun-05-06 | | Chopin: <Cotdt>
<etabeta has extraordinary potential to become the computer chess champion.> In that case, I have extraordinary potential to become the next World Chess Champion. :) |
Jun-05-06 | | technical draw: etabeta can't beat my computer, eatabagel. |
Jun-05-06 | | Chopin: <FreeArcade Chess> would probably crush Etabeta. |
Jun-05-06 | | Jilted Rook: Watch out for version 2 - Etaevenbeta |
Jun-05-06
 | | WannaBe: It's version 3 that's scary, Eta-Beta-Da-Vida (honey)!! Or version 4! Eta-Beta-Da-Vinci (code)!! |
Jun-06-06 | | nikolajewitsch: Does anybody have an idea where I could get this engine? I mean, i could say I have beat an engine that was playing with full strength.... |
Jun-06-06 | | Chopin: <Does anybody have an idea where I could get this engine?> At a vending machine. |
Jun-13-06 | | cotdt: i heard rumors that ETABETA will go commercial in the coming year, and will be cheaper than the other engines, only $40. |
