Dec-02-06 | | Karpova: <Let's face it, spending quality time at the chessboard and spending quality time with beautiful women are usually mutually exclusive, sad but true, the idea that you could do both at the same time is appealing!>
replace <women> with <men> and the statemant is still true. |

 | | TheAlchemist: <korger> I dug up some magazines and tried to find some of her games that best reflect her playing style. Mind you, these players mostly with ratings 2100-2300, so you'll likely find more and bigger mistakes. I forgot to mention one of her best qualities is her fighting and team spirit and her great will to win, that's why she does very well in team competitions (she has two medals for individual performances in European team championships). On the other hand, she is sometimes overly optimistic and makes very dubious sacrifices (but often manages to save it thanks to her fighting spirit) and sometimes plays dubious openings. She's also quite prone to blunders. So, here are a few examples of all the above, not really examples of best play, but this is how she likes to play. Krivec-Kaps, Slovenian championship 2001
J Krivec vs D Kaps, 2001
Kaps-Macek, Mitropa Cup Aosta 2002
1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Bb4 4. Bd3 dxe4 5. Bxe4 Nf6 6. Bf3 c6 7. Ne2 Nbd7 8. O-O Bd6 9. Bf4 Qc7 10. Bxd6 Qxd6 11. Ng3 O-O 12. Re1 Re8 13. Qd2 h6 14. Rad1 e5 15. d5 cxd5 16. Nxd5 Nxd5 17. Bxd5 Qc7 18. Ne4 Re7 19. Nd6 Nf6 20. Nxc8 Rxc8 21. Bb3 Qc5 22. Qd6 Qxd6 23. Rxd6 Kh7 24. c3 Nh5 25. g3 Rc5 26. Bc2+ g6 27. f4 Kg7 28. fxe5 Kh7 29. e6 Kg7 30. Rd7 Kf6 31. exf7 Rxe1+ 32. Kf2 Kg7 33. Kxe1 Nf6 34. Rxb7 1-0 Kaps-Olarasu and Sebag-Kaps from the Olympiad 2004
D Kaps vs G Olarasu, 2004
M Sebag vs D Kaps, 2004
About her openings, here's a game she played at the 2004 Olympiad with White: 1.e4 c5 2.c3 d5 3.d3 Nc6 4.Bf4 e5 5.Bg3 d4 6.f4 Nf6 7.fxe5 Ng4 8.Nf3 Ne3 9.Qd2 b5 10.Na3 Qa5 11.Nc2 b4 12.Kf2 etc. and she went on to win. About her fighting spirit, this is a game from the 2001 European team championships in Leon. Both made mistakes, I guess time trouble played a part as well: Kaps-Kouvatsou (the article said she was a former World junior champion) D Kaps vs M Kouvatsou, 2001
I will try and look for some more, this was done more in a hurry. |

Dec-04-06 | | Fluffy: <korger: You write that Darja is a great attacker, yet her games in chessgames.com don't seem to support this claim at the moment. Do you know any other database which has other games of hers?> If you need more of her games Chessbase has over 450. Chessgames, that picture of Darja at Kosteniuk's site is the same one Chessbase has as their lead-in picture of her. Any chance you could throw that picture of Darja up here as well on her page, seeing as she doesn't have any picture here yet? I for one think it's a great shot of her. Fluffy |

Nov-17-13 | | Fluffy: <Or, in this case, a waste of time.> It looks like you're right. I almost did another 3-year check-in last year but figured like you did. It looks like she's still a current player though, and I just thought it was a nice chess-oriented (which was important) picture of her. I hope a one of these links works. http://chesspics.com/albums/chesspi... http://www.kosteniuk.com/albums/got... |
