Hence, the Polar Bear SYSTEM, and not the Bird OPENING. But has it really hibernated? It's still good as far as I know. If you're not playing master level, you'll wreak havoc and then some! |

I told one chess friend about it, and now he is Polar Bearing-me hard every time, unless I play From's Gambit. I am getting good results with the gambit, but I feel like I should know how to play the main lines too |

1. ... d5 has the best results vs the bird's opening with in the past two decades. From there, the opening is slow enough that you could try for a variation of the dutch leningrad reversed; try for a king's indian type positiont with Nf6, g6, Bg7, o-o, and c5; or try for a Colle System with solid play (if i do this, i usually do advance to c5 rather than the passive c6). Also, you could repsond with c5, aiming for a closed sicillian, though i still prefer the e5 lines over this. |
